It's the reality of the world we live in. The kids know that the small inconvenience of going through a metal detector is worth the effort to protect them from the occasional nut case.

I've said what I think is realistic and what's not. By the way, the polls show that a majority of Americans want to reinstate the assault weapons ban and ban high capacity clips. I don't think it's realistic to expect teachers to become trained marksmen or carry their own AR-15's at school like some people are insinuating.
umm ,explain to me how the kids going through the metal detector helps protect them from the occasional nutcase ( I suppose we're referencing newtown)? I must have missed something.
Metal detectors might be good at preventing an inner city kid from bringing a knife to school and using it against someone in a fight. However, if someone has an AR-15 they'll tell the metal detectors to go **** themselves.
