So I have to ask why are you here if you are obviously not a trader? I am assuming you do not trade because you think small traders are crazy. How do you define small trader...under $1 million to trade? Also ALL BIG traders started as small traders. Keep thinking that YOU CANNOT DO IT and it will become a self fulfilling prophecy....because YOU NEVER WILL SUCCEED. BUT if you keep thinking I WILL do it and one day you have DONE IT.

Short story here...I have a small successful business (with no business back ground) and I have a CFP that has more letters (degrees) after his name than I care to know. In 2008 all his clients lost just as much as everyone else as the market tanked. I SWORE I would NEVER allow that to happen. When he told me that i should not manage my own retirement acct because "...Its been shown that the average person cannot do as well as a professional..." I told him "I am NOT the AVERAGE person." Recently in late 7-2011 I met with him and he said he wanted to manage my money again. I told him I was in 100% cash at the time....he laughed...2 weeks later I called him back and asked if he got his clients out of the market. He said no! I knew then that I could manage my money better than most any professional. I have done MUCH better than he has done and made money as the market dropped. I have no degree in finance or business.

To succeed at trading long term you need to cut losses short and let winners run, within a set of rules that has a clear edge. You need to do what is statistically correct whether or not it feels right. That is *entirely* about controlling your emotional response to events.

Trading requires only average intelligence but a phenomenal level of psychological control or EQ. It's about completely transcending the limbic system, the reptilian brain of instant gratification.

Your average finance degree will try to tell you that it's all about increasingly sophisticated formulae, only available to the highest GMAT scorers with the highest IQs. It's crap such as that that caused the 2008 meltdown and will continue to cause many more.. whilst REAL traders - graduates, high school drop outs or barely literate - use their real world edge to profit at the expense of these stuffed shirts.
