No this is a job for HFT. Basically, they are looking for a Mathmatician/Computer Scientist who wants to focus on the stock markets. HFT is only one way to profit in the stock markets.
+1 means i agree with bhardy that emg has posted a HFT job and that people make money from the markets in other ways as well.
Do u believe the number of hedge funds are declining since the early 2000s and the number of HFTs are rising?
I am sorry EMG, but your comments about education demonstrate an Extremely Moronic Generalization. Will you forgive my acronymic sentence?
here is another interesting site on how imporrtant higher education is: http://www.peak6.com/leaders/investments/daniel-rosenthal/ Mr. Rosenthal is currently building the PEAK6 high-frequency trading business and managing technology for the PEAK6 businesses. Most recently, Mr. Rosenthal was the founder and co-chief executive officer of OptionsHouse. Prior to that, he was the chief technology officer for PEAK6, building its proprietary trading platforms, risk management, and back office from the ground up. Mr. Rosenthal grew the technology group from a staff of one in 1999 to a group of more than 50 people in 2006. Mr. Rosenthal received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Hamilton College.
Last February and March I sat in a room full of highly educated people. Not one of us could figure out how to trade profitably. My education distracted me. I was too busy trying to use my educated smarts to beat the system before I even understood the system and more importantly understood how my own unique personality effects my behavior when I trade. I'm still guilty of this. Tried to outsmart the system again and lost a bunch of money. Went back to the basics. I am making money again.
