Brian Houston claims wife Bobbie made redundant from Hillsong

    By Latika Bourke April 9, 2022 https://www.smh.com.au/national/bri...-redundant-from-hillsong-20220409-p5ac6u.html

Hillsong founder Brian Houston has hit out at the church, accusing it of “losing its soul” in an angry social media post in which he claimed the church had made his wife Bobbie redundant.

Houston shared a screenshot on Instagram of a message that reads: “Dear Bobbie, I wanted to text to let you know I will sending you an email shortly regarding your employment.”

“Please let me know if you would like to talk about it or if you have questions,” the message reads.

The name of the sender is rubbed out.

The image shows the start of Bobbie’s response, which begins: “I don’t even have words to express how cold and callous this has all become.”

The image then cuts off the rest of the message.

Brian Houston wrote that his wife had received the communication making her redundant after “39 years of exemplary service.”

“Are we supposed to act like this is all OK? It’s not!” he said. “Our beautiful church is losing its soul.”

Hillsong Church was contacted for comment.

Bobbie Houston’s apparent exit from the church completes the power couple’s fall from grace inside the evangelical organisation, which they founded in the 1980s, and which has grown into a global mega church that rakes in between $80-$100 million in revenue a year.

Last month, 68-year-old Brian Houston stepped down as the global senior pastor of the church after he was found to have breached its moral code in his behaviour with two women.

Hillsong Church accepted Houston’s resignation, but praised both Brian and Bobbie for their faithful service.

  4. "But those elders who are sinning you are to reprove before everyone, so that the others may take warning." 1 Timothy 5:20

Thanks, @themickey for helping others to find out about this and take warning!

Might I suggest perhaps 'Hillsong Houston', yourself and other self-professed religious christian sinners might all reprove your own pieties and do a Mat 7 first. Y'all ready broke the hypocrisy meter!

It's impossible not to sin, doesn't matter who you are.
Christians can feel anger, lust, tell fibs, exageragate, misrepresent, steal, be dishonest, racial or religous predjudices, dark thoughts, greed, lust for money, use foul language etc....
It's just in the nature of humans, and with Christians (or maybe any religion) the more one attempts to repress natural feelings, often it amplifies a problem elsewhere.
My first wife was a devout Christian, yet still ended up in the pastors bed while married to me.

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Nigh on, if not impossible for humans to attain.

Most Christians seem to act like they sin so that their Jesus didn't die for nothing.

Bible prophesy, that's because God knows the future, right?
Only trouble is though, God doesn't know who will or won't be a Christian otherwise why go through all this 'Jesus saves you' nonsense.
So one moment He knows the future, another moment He doesn't. :banghead:

Prophesy is just another con job.

Saying that, there could be premonition, I don't have an explanation for that.

  9. God does know the future. It's kind of complicated. :D
God knows the future, based on my understanding of the Bible, it's both because He exists in the future and He also makes choices to determine future events.
Now, this next concept is a little bit less obvious to find in the Bible. I might even be overthinking it. But, there is a God who controls EVERYTHING and KNOWS all things and is ALL POWERFUL.

Can He create beings who can freely make choices?

And I think that is some of what the whole reason we exist is all about. I think God chose to make beings who can choose. God chose to make our original parents in such a way that their choice to turn from Him was magnified in all of their offspring, yet God did not re-create new beings, otherwise, He would be creating evil, which He cannot do and He is not the originator of evil. That is why when we see the tragic results of cruelty towards young "innocent" babies and children, we should not blame God, but rather 1. The person who made the choice to be cruel and 2. The devastating consequences of living in a world that has rejected God and does not receive His protection against evil, but instead God is allowing evil to be seen for how awful evil is. When He judges, it will be seen by the angels and all those redeemed as righteous judgment. For those being judged in the future, this will be the just anger of what is good coming against what is evil, and that is actually terrifying, if you are on the side of evil.

People should not doubt the goodness of God or His love for people because He showed great kindness towards people by sending Jesus to take the wrath of God in our place. Because He is the God-man He could die once a physical death to remove from us the eternal death and separation from God that is the sentence we are under.

As far as "the elders who are sinning" goes, the context would be those sins that are contradictory to the lifestyle of one who is leading the church of God. There are lists in the Bible that are very restrictive simply because the life of a leader should be exemplary.

It is true that all sin is sin, and all sin, including believers.

It is not true that every pastor or pastor's wife commits adultery, or is guilty of extortion or crimes of any nature. It would be wrong to lump everyone together and imply that since all sin, leaders cannot live exemplary lives.

To put it in clearer terms: when choosing a marriage partner it is better to choose one who lives by moral standards and cares about others than to marry someone who has demonstrated cruelty to others and does not care about any moral code. That doesn't mean people can't change and do bad, I'm just trying to make the point that even though we all sin, there are different degrees of sin, seen in believers as well as unbelievers.

    Sorry about your wife. :(

Oh, I didn't finish my thought, so although God knows the future, because He made us with a true ability to choose, although within the constraints of what He allows and the opportunities He gives, the choices to receive or reject Him are ours and happen.

So, God knows the future but we make choices that He foreknows but doesn't force.

That is my opinion and I have to state it like that because it's not completely clear in the Bible and there are theologians who have wrestled with this far more than I and it seems rarely do any come to the exact same conclusions with each other. :D

I'm going to be late for church if I don't stop writing!!!
