Who can blame them. Todays fake is already so real and keeps getting more real.

I think it's the growing divergence in wealth and intelligence that's the "problem". Buyers (consumers) keep getting dumber while suppliers keeps getting smarter. On top of that, the smart team up and become even more powerful.

  3. This concept is fascinating.

I first came across it while reading about one of the 'live forever' guys. His goal was to survive till the singularity and then theoretically live forever due to exponential improvements in medicine etc.

I dont have the sense that we have reached that point,in fact i think that possibly the last 10 years have been a downtrend for the idea but in theory it would be close.

We are probably living in a simulation. See the double-slit experiment; and then, most of the handles on this board are clearly NPCs.

Simulation or not, what difference does it make for us?

The media Malcolm X was referring to was very different from today's. In fact a Trump would have been far less likely in Malcolm X's time -- media gate keepers of major networks which dominated broadcast news in an earlier era would have treated Trump as an embarrassing fool, rather than as a serious candidate. Steve Bannon, our former, and would be again, shadow President, would have had a far more difficult time promoting Donald all the way to the presidency without the internet.

At least since the end of the 19th Century we have had the equivalent of Fox News. For example throughout the earlier part of the 20th Century, Hearst News Papers dominated U.S. News. Rupert Murdoch's Fox News organization is modeled after Hearst News coverage philosophy. Fox is Hearst News Papers' reincarnated in an electronic form. What's makes a critical difference today is the addition of the internet and social media with their near total lack of gatekeeping. This unbridled media, expands the reach of Hearst-like filtered, sensationalized and doctored-opinion coverage far beyond the reach of Fox News' Talking Heads. The Fox garbage gets as much or more attention than legitimate journalism. The result is that factual, in depth reporting is now relegated more to the sidelines, almost as a curiosity maintained for a minority of the population with egghead tendencies..
