I know that you are not buying anymore edtx stock, but can you explain how the exchange works. Are the money and stocks traded simultaneously? For example, have 50 shares with td ameritrade. How would the transaction work?
If you have 50 shares to sell on TD, the easiest way is that the short side opens a TD account as well. Then the steps are 1. You transfer 50 shares from your TD account to his/her TD account. This can be done online, and is nearly instant, it typically takes up to 30 minutes. 2. He/she pays you either by cash balance transfer between your TD accounts, or by some other means, like Paypal, or Zelle. I did all 3 of the above depending on the counterparty preferences Steps 1 and 2 can occur in any order, but even if you pay cash from TD balance, TD will not facilitate the trade. They will NOT make sure money-for-shares exchange happens. For them, these are two independent transactions. So you need some basic level of trust in your counterparty, to minimize the risk you are going to be scammed. Then for you, the shares seller, the deal is over. The "short" side, has one more step to do 3. ACAT transfer of shares from his TD account to the broker where he has his short position This step is the longest, and TD is the worst in doing that. I did that with various brokers and TD is the slowest, and has the worst support desk for this kind of transactions.
Most of the people I talked to said that they can only transfer shares to another account under the same name. How were you able to receive the shares?
