Warren is getting 10% a year on his prefererreds, and his warrants last for 5 years. I would bet that in the long term, he is going to make out like a bandit on these deals. In his NY Times piece, Buffet even explicitly stated he doesn't know where the market is going in the short term, but if you are looking at the long term, he got his investments dirt cheap.
Wow you get to be Buffett now. You can buy common GS now in the open market at 65 and get the same deal he got through perpetual preferred. This is a wonderful window into how markets work, and if you'd stop Buffett bashing you could learn something. Imagine the bashing that would have occured on ET in '74.
