WARNING: Open E Cry

Discussion in 'Retail Brokers' started by Forrest Gump Jr, Mar 19, 2008.

  1. yes they do, but the most important issues are:
    1) HOW FAST DO THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM ?
    2) HOW FAST DO THEY REACT ? (begin to take action)
    3) HOW QUICKLY IS IT FIXED SATISFACTORILY ?
    (think hours, days, weeks, etc.)

All streaming data feeds should be rated on that basis.
Of course, that is not the only criteria !
If their feed is DOG SLOW and they are "good" on all of the above, then the above is fairly MEANINGLESS.
Likewise, if they are BLAZING FAST, but score low on the above,
    then they are risky-at-best.

    Something to think about...

anyone else have missing data on Eurex markets? ....... I have missing data on my OEC Eurex charts (Bund, Dax....) for about 8 minutes just before and just after the open of the US markets.... anyone else?

At the same time, e-minis prices, charts were ok for me...

Btw - does NOT appear to be a Eurex exchange problem as an independent market data feed was fine and no missing data on those charts....

  3. Today's Open E Cry Report Card=Pass, for the 4th day in a row!

I think we have a trend starting. Hopefullly, a long term one.

No disconnects or apparent data feed pauses!

    Anyone with issues today?

  4. I have posted in the past regarding OEC and the data problems.

In a post to be fair to OEC. I have it running for days and there has not been a problem at all with it.
I felt it is important to be fair and post the positive.
As I mentioned I will no longer post if anything negative happens.
I have mentioned in past problems so it was known, and would help to get things resolved.
At this point it has been good for days.

Agree. I noticed a few lockups now and then in recent weeks but they were nothing that would drive me to move my account from them. Not to make excuses for them, but folks need to realize that every broker is going to have some sort of problem or other now and then. Even the best traders I know on other, more high-end brokers and platforms have had data problems, paltform problems, and such.

Compared to where I used to trade futures, I can't complain at all about OEC's platform.

That said it looks to be stable for a few days on this end, too.

  6. As an active ES scalper, I can say things have improved 10000% this week compared to the past many weeks. OEC finally has things figured it out it appears and I had ZERO quote freezes on the DOM and no disconnects.

The single stumble this week was yesterday when I did not get a confirmed ES fill for 2 mins. after it actually happened. Price traded through my order on DOM so I know it filled but OEC Trader didn't confirm right away. I couldn't cancel or place orders during this 2 min. period either.

So of the 1950 mins. in the trading week, minus those 2 mins., that's 99.90% uptime! Not bad... Hopefully this will be 100% in the many weeks and months ahead!

  7. Have the wheels come off the cart at all this week?

  8. I'm running perfect now for at least the last two weeks.

An upgrade came out this week as well, so that may have helped.

    It's been good here.

  9. Brokers need to keep overhead low. This is a cutthroat business. Sometimes they don't act until customers start complaining about slowness or interruptions.

Changing brokers may cause you to run into the period that THEY do the same thing. As long as your broker fixes it after seeing a rise in complaints, then don't sweat it. It is also why I recommend people have 2+ brokers. Relying on one broker is somewhat foolhardy.

People have complained about EliteTrader hanging at times in the past. It is the nature of the business.

  10. I assume all is flowing well lately w/ oec?

Question - Is anyone using their DOM hotkeys w/ live trading ? Are they funtioning correctly and consistently?
