Another OTA employee busted! I love it! You can accuse these OTA bubbleheads of a lot of things, but two things you cannot accuse them of is being creative or intelligent. Right before Christmas, here in Orlando, they had a "special holiday celebration" that featured OTA founder Eyal Shaher and Sam Seiden. What a smokescreen! Just another sugar coated sale pitch with special offers. Notice that the Orlando center is doing more online stuff. Is that because thay can't afford to fly the instructors in anymore? And I'm still hearing about classes that are cancelled BUT listed on OTA's website as "sold out" Caveat Emptor.
They had a Power Trading Workshop in Orlando recently. Only two people showed up but in their website they stated that this workshop was SOLD OUT! Doesn't OTA realize that people will go back to their websites after they attend events? Where is the credibility?
So I was doing a google search for this company because a friend and I are thinking about dabbling in stocks and wanted to get some education before we just dumped our trillions of dollars into what we think are good investments. And when I say dabble, I mean eventually make a career out of it (long term, of course). And when I say trillions, I mean nowhere near that. We literally have only the retail broker accounts that we have made a small amount of money with. I read through this entire thread - Lord knows I should have taken an Adderal beforehand because it's a bit lengthy. Despite the generally poor shadow that has been cast upon them, I am going to go ahead and go to a free seminar here in Dallas on the 4th. I won't bother posting even more dribble about how it goes, but I honestly don't know anything outside of watching Sirius stock go up and down by a penny per day so I figure any information is good (or bad) information and worth having. My real reason for posting is that I see many of you saying "find the same information on the internet" or "find a mentor" as if it is something that anyone can easily do. I am here to tell you that after weeks of searching for trading knowledge online, that it is nearly impossible to find anything that is truly educational and that you can feel confident about after reading it. Most - if not all - of what you find is this sort of discussion that seems to contain nothing but people contradicting each other (I am sure that the vast majority of these boards don't do that, but this is the only thread I came across in my searches and it took me two hours to run through) or "GIVE US YOUR MONEY AND LEARN HOW TO BE A MILLIONAIRE" sites. I come from a semi poor family and I don't have anything near a person that I could consider a mentor. So my question is this - and only this - outside of reading "Day Trading for Dummies", where would any of you point someone to find truly useful information to build an "education" on in terms of trading and investing? I know that most knowledge is going to come from experience, but there has to be something to read that has a relatively condensed "basics" to get someone started in the low end. Or or someone that is willing to share what they know that doesn't cost $65,000. Where do you find those things? Even a link to a specific post on these forums would be most helpful. My eyes hurt. (sarcasm) I know there is no get rich quick to this, and I know that there isn't only one place that tells you everything you need to know. I am looking for something that gives you that initial push into real knowledge. P.S. - My apologies in advance for resurfacing a thread that should have died a very very long time ago. P.S.S. - Please pray to give me the strength to turn down forking out $6,000 for something that I can find "anywhere" on the internet.
Dude, you could try http://www.traderslaboratory.com/ or trade2win or whatever. It's not like there aren't a lot of places to look using The Google..... But the only thing that attending a freebie seminar will get you is a high-pressure sales-pitch that can make you broke saving money because the Grail of the Sale is "on sale" only for the next 15 minutes... Though if you like the feeling of being in a pressure cooker and being leaned-on by a sales guy(s), I guess it could be fun...
You don't think they've managed to stick around this long without the ability to convert even "die-hard" skeptics, do you? You might be (unpleasantly) surprised at how convincing they are. Do a search for "Best of" thread here on ET or a search for the Anekdoten thread. This should give you plenty of reading materials.
Yeah, I guess I should have said I was more interested in trading than investing. Anyway, I definitely appreciate the direction. Thanks!
BTW - if you think you are going to get "confident" about some approach somebody is posting just by reading it, you are in for a rude surprise..... And two hours is nothing, unless someone lays it all out for you in bullet points - clearly, concisely, and cogently. Don't expect that, either.

Larry Pino was around for longer than OTA b4 he finally crashed. Please do not mistake longevity for success. I am sure that the only thing holding OTA together is their franchise sales and residuals. I am curious though why so many of these franchise owners sell their businesses back to corporate (for a lot less than what they paid for plus administrative fees) if the system was so foolproof. As for where to get education, there are plenty of places where you can get quality education. Unfortunately, OTA is not one of them.
Yep, they probably have a script for every possible angle. Don't even give them a chance to get their hooks in you is my recommendation.
