  3. ARLP----I may be a little late to the party, but formation is a strong break out.....Considering how well ACI and BTU just did in their reports...

  4. $CostAverageMAN, thanks for posting. I bookmarked this thread and come back daily. A few questions:

    - What services did you subscribe to, in other words, what out there do you think is worth the money? I believe you subscribe to Vector Vest, Cramer Action Alerts Plus.. and Investors.com? Why did you these, why are they valuable to you and do you subscribe to anything else?

    - What percentage of your positions (and how many in absolute numbers) do you watch daily, hourly? I understand there is a mix of long- and short term positions.

Or do you "just" rotate by industry so if you think you wanna dump Miners you dump your entire sector allocation and e.g. move to something else? How on earth do you keep track of all these positions daily! My hat is off to you. I'm shocked in a positive way and amazed at the same time, is Excel all you use for portfolio monitoring? Any other software at all?

    - Why do you not go short? I remember you had 1 short position at one time, that's it. It seems you have a great timing when to dump a sector, shorting would bring in nice short term gains without more risk than buying a sector. Is it a principal decision?

Cost, I am also interested in knowing the answers to the previous poster's questions, as well as a rough ratio on where your ideas come from, and how much time you devote to your research.

Some stocks to look at along the lines you mentioned:

HYEG, HYDG, DESC, CPEU, QCYE, URRE

  6. $Cost- I discovered your thread over the weekend and am quite impressed!. I'm retiring soon and would like to learn from your experience. I had a few questions-

    1) Are most of your funds in IRA's? I wonder how you handle taxes. Based on your amazing success in building your assets, you may be facing big tax bills, unless the money is in Roth IRA's.

    2) I was planning to open several accounts at discount brokers- Fidelity, Ameritrade (for micro caps) and Scottrade (for mutual funds). You are paying UBS an annual 1.65% which is nearly 200K a year based on your current asset size. Do you find that UBS provides you enough value added (e.g. access to IPO's, advice) over the discount brokers? It seems to me that you are a very astute investor and probably don't need much advice, but I'm sure you must feel it is worthwhile.

    3) I just finished reading a good book that I highly recommend-
"Parlay Your IRA into a Family Fortune" by Ed Slott. It contains a lot of great information on "stretch" IRA's. Especially good if you have any grandchildren that you want to leave a legacy to.

    4) I am curious how much you started out with when you first retired in 1998. It must feel great to earn 80 times your last salary in just the first four months of 2006.

  7. ALL in ROTH.....This is why I trade so much.....I pull out dividends and live off them....

UBS has not had the best of IPO's recently, but they are always working on good deals and I'm sure one day we will get back to the glory days of easy money allocations of the TECH boom.....

ADVICE FROM BROKER----He said I have gone nuts in the past 2 months....He told me I am over trading and he can't keep up with my portfolio at all....I told him I was just trying to get more than my share while I can.....When I started this journal I was an Investor.....Study hard on many long term holds.....I always have been aware of how to increase the yield by selling high in a channel and buying it back lower to reduce cost, but really never took advantage of it until very recently.....I am ASTONISHED at how well I am doing....

The 1.65% is getting pretty outrageous, but just today by broker told me to buy ZRAN before earnings and alerted me to how undervalued YRCW got after it's recent sell off.....They moved very nicely on earning's today and should gap up tomorrow....The Truckers have really come through this quarter......SWFT, JBHT, YRCW, CLDN

I give all the Credit to VECTOR VEST.....The ability to screen with their service has made me find sectors/equity that I would of never even considered.....Timing is everything....It could be the best stock in the world, but if you are the last to the party before it corrects then you have a long time to wait before you break even....I am able to search through so many screeners for timing alone....I would say in regards to timing that I am usually no more than 2 days late on nice 5 to 10 day rallies on decent stocks in moving sectors......

I retired with 1.9 Mil in 1998 If I remember correctly.....It was 40% in Mutual Funds and 60% all US equity

I had never heard of VECTOR VEST until this thread. It looks to be similar to TC2000, which I have heard many successful swing traders rave about. Can anyone who has tried both products offer a review summary comparison?
