  5. I just got done replying to a personal message and decided to post the response in the old JOURNAL....

The best book I have ever read on investing was "The Intelligent Investor", by Benjamin Grahm originally published in 1949......In a nutshell the book takes a very long term approach to VALUE investing...It teaches one how to search, locate, and evaluate good values in the market....Most importantly it teaches one what to watch out for.....I for one am also a dividend investor....For this I would recommend "The Dividend Investor".....It's just a simple look at different equities and the performance through the good times and the bad times and how Dividend stocks performed during these fluctuating times....Once one understands the value of the dividend and it's ability to maintain longterm performance year over year, It almost makes owning stocks that don't pay a dividend an extreme gamble during recessions and downturns...

I for one have also enjoyed the book "Rich Dad Poor Dad"....This book came along much later in my life, but reminded me of how I struggled to get to where I am today.....Just the understanding of what an ASSET/LIABILITY is....This is truly invaluable knowledge.... To actually be rich (No dollar amount justifies this, No paycheck determines this, and No portfolio size declares this) one's monthly assets must produce enough income to cover one's total monthly liabilities.....Once one has built their assets to this point, He/She no longer has to basically do anything except receive (Dividends, rent checks, or whatever income producing investments he/she has built throughout their life)....

I for one still enjoy the daily challenge of the markets fluctuations and the challenge of finding long/short term investments.....I am retired now and have the ability to track my portfolio minute by minute which allows me to attack profits and minimize losses, But still all my phone/internet/insurance/electricity/gas BILLS, kids college tuition, TAXES, and Daily expenses are covered every month through the Dividend Payments I receive monthly/quarterly/yearly.....This is no big secret, but is the simplest form of retirement I know...

  6. I may be buying protective puts or selling off equity this week, but I will not be short anything......I never short for the short term.....Only DCN in last 3 years was my only short....one because I had a great understanding of the industry and delphi which is actually run better than DCN was close to going under about the time I entered the Short Position....DCN (Dana Corp) had a key employee pass away many months ago and I knew that was "the straw that broke the camels back"....30+ years in the auto parts industry.....This is why I shorted, no better industry to short than these three companies Lear Corp, Dana Corp, and Delphi when the BIG 3 are in trouble......

I think LEA will pull out of this steep correction, because of the ties with many other Major Auto Producers and a diversified after market business. Also Valuations have come down so much, It could be a steal at this level....Purchased last week, But a very risky bet....
