    I love sardines LOL I started a thread a couple years ago about the European tradition of high-end gourmet artisanal tinned fish. A lot of Americans, especially boomers and older, when they hear canned fish, the only thing they can think of is tuna, sardines, salmon and maybe anchovies. And a lot of the stuff you find in US supermarkets is pretty low grade. But there's a whole other world out there of really high quality canned fish.

    I think a redesign of the self-checkout counter is needed. Items should be sent across a conveyor transparent covered tunnel ... where it is scanned and presented to be self- bagged about at the other end. Payment to be made before bagging.

    The main reason I shop at Sam's Club or BJ over Costco is because of the self checkout. Those lines get REAL long. Can't stand waiting in line. But I can sympathize with the theft, boils my blood when I see videos showing the rampant stealing. Perfect Amazon Go RFID shopping and put some security at the front door.

    GOOD WARNING, I'll make sure to NEVER to stay or nest there[Sonesta hotel].
    OLD Hickory Hotel [Jackson TN] ripped me off with no hot water, no wonder he had to sell the place.[Sarcasm\ no wonder they call them ''smart phones '' LOL:D:D]
    I use both the WMT AI auto checker + their cashiers. Priceless remark , made by a WMT cashier , as she cash checked out my smoked sardines in soybean oil, ''YOU like those stinking things ??'' LOL:caution::caution:
    I like those WMT or DG, yellow plastic bags for hotel laundry+ do laundry local. Like Charles Dickens wrote 'Best of times + worst of times '[A Tale of Two Cities]

    I Never like to punch in a product number, i use the WMT auto cashier AI pictures or barcodes;
    even though its shortchanged me + overpaid by a penny LOL. May use a cashier sometimes.
    But too much trouble to get a penny refund;
    and I figure a $00. 25 find in parking lot is mine. The WMT associates are to busy to pick up change I noted ,in parking lot too busy with shop carts + higher volume profit. Like Charles Dickens , noted A Tale of 2 Cities. It was the best of times +worst of times.
    Like Mrs Meyers snapped ''put your shopping cart up when you're thru ''

    I use the WalMart Pickup and never have to get out of my vehicle. Best thing that ever happened to our area. I see the younger folks are more in favor of WalMart delivery. Both pick-up and delivery will be the areas of growth i expect.

    My local Walmart is going through changes. They are doing one long line to funnel people to self-checkout and cashier checkout lines. Not sure it's optimal.
    I really liked it when they added the new self-checkout machines with green light to signify it was free. People didn't realize it yet and I was able to grab one quickly almost immediately every time.

    Also for pickup, it's cool only if you are buying a lot of stuff. I think there is a minimum to use pickup.

    In the Walmart by me, the self-checkout is the usual fare (a large square area with about 10 stations), but right next to that are the regular aisles with conveyors, and two (three?) of them are self-checkout, but most people don't notice them because they look like any other cashier aisle, and are kinda' separated a bit with a candy rack between them and the square (boxed) area.

    So while there is a line for the box, there's usually at least one of those tucked-away SC aisles open. Best kept open-air secret at the store. :)
