Everyone is welcome The end result is the results that matter. Believe me I will be posting my negative days also cause it is all part of the game. Of all the threads on Elite I think we have the only one where people are really showing one another how they do. Putting their reputation and style on the line and hopefully helping the others on Elite in terms of knowing who and where to get good information. I am stoked to see more and more profitable traders coming on this thread. People have been PM'ing me questiosn and I am glad to help. Lets keep this up, I wish that when I started I could have seen something like this. It would have saved me tons of money learning.
I've subscribed and canceled my sub to trade ideas 3 or 4 times over the years. Either got busy on other projects and never used it, or couldn't figure out how to make it do what I want and gave up. I would like to pick your brain sometime on some ideas I have. PM me if you want to chat on IM. I trade two to four differnt accounts just about every day. I have one for opening orders and day trading, one for position trading and one for futures and options. Also learning some new software in another. Today was -1600 in one acct, + 3000 in another. But with 200,000 shares traded, I ended up a little below average on the net, but still green. Day trade account...
Good stuff all. DT: If it's not revealing anything proprietary, posting your execution blotters would be educational and much appreciated. One can then look at the history of the alerts and understand more about how to profit from them. I've been forward-testing TI's breakout alerts (thanks to DT's mention of them) for the last couple months with various combinations of target/stop params and other filtering, and now have a ton of data that I haven't found time to churn through to see if there's anything there. On the whole, they lose money, but I "feel" (from some preliminary work) that some filtering as to which alerts to use and which not to use can make them profitable. If only there were more hours in the day...
I didn't trade anything yesterday expect a short on XOM that I got a small profit on. A lot of these trades were around longer term positions I have been holding the last few days. PLAB and JMDT had nice moves today. Still holding a large VRTX position that is moving a bit. Will be selling this off slowly in the coming days.
I personally believe that trend days will work well, and chop days probably won't work much at all. Also, a good discretionary entry point is important. I don't know if you can filter that in your backtesting. Just common sense, but maybe DT could comment on it.
There is a common misconception about how to use TI that I want to make sure everyone understands. I do not have TI configured so that the window I am looking at is going to give me constantly profitable results, I am not sure that it is 100% possible. What TI does better than any software I have seen is give me the ability to scan and filter in such a way so that I see trends well enough to profit consistently. The trends in one case like today may be to buy breakouts, on another day it is to sell highs and buy lows. I try to keep my trade-ideas set ups relatively simple. Right now the set up that gives me better odds has been the one where I am looking at highs and lows, but only after the 40th occurance.http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#wsf_MinCount I am not aware if whisper can or can not do that (Hydro), but the end result is every alert in either direction has serious buyers and serious sellers. Additionally TI Pro has a feature that allows me to do something quickly which otherwise would take time. This feature answers the question of which trades I am or am not likely to jump into. In TI Pro I use the Chart columns to line up the trends. The daily chart next to the weekly chart. http://www.trade-ideas.com/VideoHelp/Menu.html?video=Trade-Ideas Pro: Columns: Charts Seeing this snapshot view gives me a much better idea of what I am getting into and lets me not have to lookup every single alert. TI does not replace trader skill because I believe if you jump into every alert you will get killed. But through this user interface I am able to discern what is good from what is not and have good results consistently.
