Care to elaborate your opinion on Paul? If the primary in my state were held today I don't know who I'd vote for except him, is why I ask.
For me, I want the Ron Paul appetizer and not the full-tilt Ron Paul main course and dinner show. Ron Paul Very Lite. The regular Ron Paul is a bit extreme for me, personally. I find his 'edges' to be very compelling. While chunks of the story are compelling, the solutions he proposes are, IMO, not realisitic given practical necessity and the realities of our society - in fact that's what turns some folks off of his message. The chasm between theory and the implementation of the remedy is, in my eyes at least, a bridge too far at present. Just my 2 cents.
Does that include the gold standard? Don't you think it would be cool to carry around sacks of gold flakes again?
Thanks, at present he's still my first choice. But then I'm inclined to think we need some drastic measures.
Like most all things in life, there are threads of truth in every zealot's message - Left, Right, Libertarian. Whenever one political party veers over to the 'harder' and less moderate factions they seem to pay the price in the next election cycle. The real challenge and present reality is that the moderates in EACH party have been disappearing - leaving the more extreme elements in power and ultimately making compromise much more difficult to achieve. In terms of the ultimate health of our republic, the progressive Dems are the most corrosive and regressive because their policies are destroying the engine that creates the wealth for them to re-distribute in the name of 'social justice'. Demonizing business, demogogery, nationalization of companies and industries, tax hikes, targeted spending and tax loopholes that picks 'winners and losers' in the marketplace, and layers of poorly conceived penal regulation turns recessions into depressions. Wealth re-distribution requires the creation of wealth.
Ignoring the fact that I don't think he has all the above mentioned groups, I'll say that the 50% of Americans that pay taxes ....he doesn't have those.
