Anyone notice that the VIX and VXO started moving up a few days ago? What are the implications when the VIX and VXO start moving up as price is stable or advancing?
A rising VIX shows stronger put buying interest - nervousness at the top and wanting to protect the gains. The interesting element to me is the difference in movement between the VXO, which favors further OTM strikes, vs. the VIX which is balanced.
I agree it is strange. Not only are the vix/vxo rising along with the market but the market rising at a parabolic rate. It is somewhat strange but it could be a sign of traders being bearish at major psychological levels.
