You might want to check out tigerdirect.com first, they have a bunch of laptops with XP on it. They also have a pink Friday sale right now.

Since you didn't mention price, here is one in the lower range with XP Pro. The cool thing is that it has a fingerprint reader (for security if you loose it while traveling) and a webcam (to see your loved ones) for only $900:

Or this one is "ruggedized", you can spill coffee on it or drop it with 2 G memory and XP Pro for $1300:

  2. I would not by a "Sytematic" or anything from tiger direct.

NewEgg has 89 laptops that have XP Pro.
This has been increasing as people have been asking for XP over Vista. Many Vista machines were getting returned.

    I would recommend Acer:

This one has a 1.9GB dualcore proc, 2 GB ram, 8400Geforce and 160GB HD

It looks like Newegg does have a bigger selection and 10% better prices than Tigerdirect. I own an Acer, they don't put lots of crap on it...
Only problem is to read the screen outside, it is either reflecting or too dark, that can be an issue if OP wants to trade on the beach... :)

  5. If I could get a native solid charting software for OS X I would stop buying Window based PCs.

Even the only PC game I play has a Mac client.

Today I visited a CompUSA I had not visited in nearly a year and was surprised to see its Apple area relocated to the middle and expanded.

Consumers are switching to the Mac faster than ever.

A few weeks ago I needed a new laptop in a hurry because I had to leave town on short notice. They didn't have any XP machines, so I went with Vista. And... I love it. I was really prepared to absolutely hate it, but I just don't.

User account control is the best, and the first thing I hear from others is that they immediately disable it and keep running as administrator. WTF? It's finally convenient to run as a standard user, and you disable it?!? Coming from a unix background, it's the most natural thing in the world. Need root? su -. I'd never dream of always logging in as root, yet every windows machine I've had I ran as administrator because it sucked so bad if you didn't. So people disable it, and then complain about how bad windows sucks when they accidentally click on HotPics.pps.exe and it overwrites /C/WINDOWS.

And allowing different network and firewall settings for different networks is awesome too. Plugged in at home? Disable software firewall. Plugged in at a hotel? Firewall the shit out of it. At work? Pick a third set of settings. And when you reconnect to your home network, it switches back to what you had it set at before you had to go live in a seedy motel for a week.

From what I've seen, I think most of the Vista hatred fits the category of contempt prior to investigation. At least that was me.

  8. I could prove it to you with actual numbers but because of your attitude I will simply let you continue in ignorance.

  9. Curious, and I'm OSX ignorant; aren't you able to run eg. Quotetracker in a Windows box? I want to try doing that in Ubuntu Linux shortly, maybe you have some comments.

    PS. What game is that?

  10. Sure but I want it to be a native application.
