no i am not sure. never will be with windows or any other os. they are complicated. but that is what i would do. creating some type of backup i guess would be the safe thing to do. i would say it probably won't be needed but do it just in case.
FYI: One of the issues in that warranty extension program is black screen on certain HP/ Compaq laptops.
