I'm sorry, I'm not buying that. There are several professional communities out there that require full name registrations and their forums are more civil, safer and of a much higher quality. What makes ET dangerous IS the anonymity of it all. It brings out the most unstable people to post here and it creates conflicts with these unstable people. The irony is, the way ET is now, you have no legal recourse in our court system and no protections from an alias. Using real names would actually protect you in our court system. You could legally file restraining orders with other users. You could sue in court for libel or slander. And you could safely alert authorities to unstable individuals. You have no such protection now on ET.

I'm just speaking of situations in general: if person B takes over person A's account and does something illegal, etc. I'm not addressing the specific account at hand.

I have changed my mind. If Baron doesn't mind a possible 80% drop in profits, who am I to argue that anonymity brings in posters, thus page views, thus profits???

    Money is overrated anyway... :)

Unlike you, the guy is a millionaire. He's got a hot wife. He's got a huge home in FL. Some nice cars. He could walk away from this site and never work a day the rest of his life. How are you doing?

As for the sharp drop in profits, my guess is the site would be far more attractive. The same reason linkedIn commands top advertising dollars is because LinkedIn KNOWS who they are marketing to. They know my name. They are not advertising to a guy with 40 different aliases who argues with himself. Real names would get rid of the trolls and keep the quality here. That quality is worth a lot more money then marketing to stockguy101 whoever that is we don't know.

My feeling is that the guys who are successful traders treasure their anonymity. But I don't know that for sure, so let them tell us what they think themselves.

I don't think so. Almost all the successful guys I know on ET, and I've been here a decade, have all revealed their real identities. Well, almost all. That's just my experience.

Thank you very much, very well. What does the look of Baron's wife have to do with posters' anonymity?

You see idiots like you is a perfect example why most of us prefer to stay nameless on the internet... Thanks for posting...

P.S.: My real name is Pekelo, by the way....

Well, you seemed to show some fake concern over the future profitability of this site. I was explaining to you those concerns were unfounded.

And if Baron does require real names here, I guess we won't be seeing you much around here anymore. Priceless...

  10. Self selection bias--- real traders who treasure their anonymity don't post here period.

    Why would they?
