https://www.youtube.com/live/h3noH7gGWUo?si=rQjKuFZioy04o4vI According to Scott Ritter, joining a Waffen SS division, especially the 14th Galatian, would have been more ideologically driven than just trying to get out from underneath the boot of Stalin. Apparently the Galatians division derives from an area that was part of Poland while Stalin was starving Ukraine, and so, unaffected. It's important to remember that Russians, in WW2 were fighting for survival after Barbarossa was kicked off...not necessarily for Stalin, or for the spread of communism. Fighting for survival just because of Nazi ideology. So you have to question the motive of someone volunteering to join the Nazi fight against Russia. Ritter has no patience for those playing down the role of the 14th Galatian.
