I'm not sure what you mean. Anyway the Yahoo video plays, CNN doesn't. I think ABC plays. ComedyCentral doesn't. I guess that's why there is TV. -Stephen
i think that you are close with your answer. on a yahoo news page for example there is a small picture with the caption underneath which reads AP video. you click on AP video which bring you to another yahoo news page with a screen, the idea being that the AP video is supposed to play on this screen. my screen stays blan instead of playing the AP video , how can i get this video to play?

Sorry for a long evaluation on this problem. Did the MSN video ever work for you in the past? When did it stop working? I wonder if you installed SP1 and SP2 recently, since after SP1, all of the MS Virtual Machine (Microsoft's equivalent to Java runtime) were disabled after the major OS updates. I had problems with Java-enabled websites after SP1, so I researched MS VM for solutions. I opted to uninstall any instances of Java, reinstalled the latest Java runtime from Sun. I think the plugin might be defunct or not connecting to your Java runtime. I took a look at your screenshot. You said CNN didn't work also, yet Yahoo did. Did any security popup come up when you tried to view the video from MSN? How about seeing a Java icon on your active taskbar (the section where your clock and other background tasks are located on your when either your system starts up or during any session when using your IE? I took a quick look at the source for the MSN video pop-up window. It does show requests for Javascript. My attempt at solving this: -Your IE settings show Javascript is enabled. Uncheck pop-up blocker in your privacy/security setting. If you have custom settings, make sure Active Scripting and all other scripting options are Enabled. -Are you using any software firewall, like Zone Alarm, or some spyware blocker? If so, you might have to look into allowing pop-ups or requests to allow third-party access (cookies, scripts), or disable it entirely. -Other than that, I would try checking the custom section of Windows update (don't use Express update), install everything it has listed from High Priority, Software (optional), but no Hardware (optional). I usually prefer to update my hardware if there is a problem arising from devices (printers, display adapter, etc). If it's not broken, I don't update it in fear that the update my break it. When you do a custom update on Windows update, it usually just installs all High Priority and most (not all) optional software items. -Uninstall Java and related applications from your Add/Remove Programs in the control panel. Restart. Install a fresh copy of Java (jre-1_5_0_06-windows-i586-p.exe or the online version). Restart the computer and try it one last time. This might fix any broken connections with Java and Windows/IE. Good luck. -Poet
Poet Trying some of the stuff you said (in no particluar order). One thing I just noticed is in Java Control Panel | Advanced | Miscellaneous there is indeed a check where is says: Place Java icon in system tray yet there is no icon there. Maybe Java isn't running? In Task Bar and Start Menu under Java (TM) 2 Platform it says ' hide when inactive ' Apparenetly Java is inactive for some reason. *********************************************** Pretty sure SP2 came installed. Bought computer new 12 months ago. I'm not sure if certain videos ever played at various sites. Never paid that much attention, MSN or wherever. Sometimes I would notice in the status bar, done but with errors on page or something like that. Might be same problem. (?) Or related to it. Played with pop-up blocker, firewalls etc. last night.
