The fan assembly, if there were one, would cover 1/2 or more of the entire card.

If you still want to try a 440, suggest you exchange your x1 for an x16. Must be some sort of hardware conflict with that x1.

The 440 is rated for only 31 watts, so power requirements normally wouldn't be an issue, regardless.

  2. Nothing covering 1/2 of the card.

Aside from whether the cards are overkill, is there any reason that an additional 290 PCIe x16 would be a problem or conflict? That would give me 2-290 cards, each in a PCIe x16 slot.

Should be perfect. That's what a mobo with 2x PCIEx16 slots was designed for.

Your T3400 looks like the latest in the Dell lineup. What CPU did you get?

Do you have all of your video cards installed?

I saw where Dell offers a 2nd 290x16 for only $80... that's a good price for a new card... and a much better price option than the 440... unless you wanted to run 8 monitors, or so (AND you had whiplash insurance.)

  9. I just have the 290 PCIe x16. It runs two monitors. I told Dell that I wanted to run 4 monitors. At the time I asked them if they could sell me another 290 x16 card and install it for me. They declined. I also asked if they could sell me the 290 x1. They said they didn't handle it. What they ended up recommending was the 440, which they claimed would work, but they wouldn't install it. LOL.

At this point they have agreed to take the 440 back. And I think what I'm going to do is buy another 290 PCIe x16. As an aside, nVidia says that if you want 4 monitors and you have a 290 PCIe x16 card, you would install a 290 x1. I'm thinking the x16 makes more sense though since I have two x16 slots.

Sheesh. Those Dell reps are real dickweeds. One of the "customize" options on their website for your rig is "dual 290s"...
