I have finished the skip through of the book. I was mostly interested about the trades and returns...I didn't find the answer, why he went to work for Soros though...Probably for managing more money. If one concentrates only on the trades described by Vic, one can make an interesting note of that 80-90% of the time he talks about losing trades. I am not sure why, I would have welcomed more of the winning ones.... One more reference to that trade tells us the size. p. 378. Talking about the silver move of 79-80: "I was short silver throughout the entrie run-up and lost a few million in the process."
funny!! It was James Randi who made that quote, not JC or another religious leader. must be tough talking to several people here who actually are friends with Victor when your information is dredged up out of a book---- VN is far from perfect but one can judge his talent by the several billion dollar fund managers who have come from his tutoring. trust me, i am going to take my first hand experience and the word of several billion dollar fund managers about VN's trading acumen over the lonely no name wannabees here. however, keep the nitpicking and humor coming, its quite entertaining. regards, surf
Why wouldn't ET members trust you? You only speak the truth. And you can easily differentiate between fantasy and reality. For example: LOL
I guess that's why I trade for a living while you write articles about trading, in addition to your blowing out sim accounts. Maybe one day you'll get to quit working for others and experience real freedom, but not until you see the light. Thank you for your concern about me 'churning my life away' but I quite enjoy it. I answer to no one, work when I want to, travel whenever I feel like it. Surf, I seriously suspect that you suffer from an undiagnosed mental illness. Not the type where you'll one day enter a McDonalds, wearing a VN mask with an automatic weapon and shoot the place up. More the kind where you mumble at park benches and think birds are talking to you. You really should visit a psychiatrist for your own good.
...that was written by Vic? You don't get more first hand than that, you moron. Others are right, you do have a mental deffect. All my posted quotes came from him or from Soros. Since you asked for more, for every post of yours, I will post a quote from Vic himself from the book, just for education and entertainment. P.S.: Attributing the quote to Jesus was tounge-in-cheek, you humorless dumbnut...(and it was irrelevant who said it anyway)
Perhaps we should give surf a break. It can't be easy for him, being a scientist, a journalist, a market analyst, a hedge fund expert and insider, a bon vivant, and VN's chief cook and bottlewasher.
Except I never claimed to be any of those things (aside from the atheist thing). Meanwhile, the "judgment" that surf employs in assessing VN he invariably also employs to evaluate the merits of LW.
the first thing that surf said that makes sense - was his comment about taking chances if you wish to get rich. I had a huge edge once. I made a lot of money - very large percent returns for 4-6 years. I should have made millions - but I did not increase my bet size fast enough. When and if you have a solid edge - you you should consider being a pig. (with your own money) and swinging for the fences. I had some very fun years and I put a bunch of money in the bank. but - it did not change my lifestyle. then I bet almost all on real estate. I had offers to get out in time - but for family reasons (read wife) I lost my trading profits in real estate. It would have been a hell of a lot more fun trading larger - then letting my wife have a say in real estate decisions.
Strange....VN daughter is like the father. She measures her self on where she went to school, the fancy feathers of resume accomplishment. Those statements are glaring, and telling of an off sence of values or self worth. She write well and I guess it is an interesting father/daughter thing for the public. But she follows the path of her father -- putting her energies into building a pubic myth. That of her old man. Fact is he was and is an arrogant self promoter who keeps reminding the world that he was a super squash player and went to Harvard. We know already. He was never a good money manager. Terrible, in fact. I think he recently produced another daughter with a woman who worked for him.
