  3. I don't know if that Gastown beer GTG every happened, but I'd be up for one at some point... a Friday afternoon is a good option, I guess we could hit up Steamworks.

If you don't mind ...what Broker are you using?
Do you trade equities or forex, options?

I am with Ameritrade Canada which is excellent in my opinion and the round trip for stocks is about US $22.00 ..Recently, as you probably know, this Canadian Division was bought out by TD Waterhouse and their commission fees kills you ..

I trade pennies and TD is NOT for such trades..

    Have a sunny Sunday ...

I 'm a US citizen living in Wash. State. My hubby's skilled worker app for PR in Canada is complete, so we're moving north of the border very soon.
I'm a self-employed (swing) trader of stocks, not options or forex, using Cybertrader and Schwab. Been doing this for five years.
Can I continue my merry ways or do I have to convert myself to a CDN trading platform and accounts? Do I need to keep my US bank, address, post box, etc., for any reason, like to make some tax advantage work out ok.?
I'm about to enter tax hell, aren't I?
Sigh, any advice for mistakes to avoid welcome.
I'd like to find out about Vancouver-area meet-up groups for related topics.
Soon to be new Vancouver trader....

  7. Are there any casinos in Vancouver where I can play Hold 'Em Poker and Blackjack?

I'm going on a trip soon, will be staying near the Terminal City Club on W. Hastings Street. If there's a good, safe casino nearby I'd appreciate hearing about it.

Also, how cold is it now in Vancouver? I'm coming from Hawaii...talk about a climate change.

    Thanks!

Actually we just had a friend down from Vic. Island and he said that you guys are looking at record rainfall this winter. Sounds like fun. :(

  9. Interesting. My wife and I did the opposite(Canada-US). Here's what I'm thinking....
Keep everything the same. Reason being is that I am going to assume that you will continue to file taxes in the US. Note: since you are both(?) US citizens, you are stuck for life filing US taxes.

So just keep everything as is for now. Do the first year that way, then see what you need to change. That's what we did.

Oh, and yeah, welcome to tax hell. We lucked out, because we "gave up residency" we didn't have to file in Canada. Though we had some friends that returned "too quicky" and Revenue Canada slapped them with the taxes for the years that they were "gone".

Not sure what happens to your health benefits if you don't pay taxes in BC. Then again, you are really paying twice, first to Canada and then the US. I think.
