I think there was a time when politicians liked to send out glossy advertisements every two years reminding people to vote for them, so it was important to keep rates low.
Of course the private sector pays, as you say. But look on the bright side!: While 47% of workers don't pay any net income tax (according to Romney ), it is probably close to 100% of this 47% that are either unemployed or low-wage private sector employees. On the other hand, probably close to 100% of federal employees pay at least some income tax. Thus while it is true that "the private sector always pays," it is also true that "the public sector always pays." It is easy to forget that federal employees pay income taxes, and when they buy things with the income that remains after taxes, they are paying the salaries of those in the private sector. ______________________ "Belief that government is bad creates bad government." -- George Soros.

USPS what is the point? ---------------- I'll throw this out there. You can construct a personal profile looking through one persons mail. You could construct a family/ household profile looking through the mail at one address. Every piece of mail begins with a data base, junk mail especially. You could sort demographics perhaps as accurate as a census studying the mail in a zip code. First class mail would narrow down the profile. Irs, gov't mail (local and state). You could determine who owns what by the type of mail. If you subscribe to magazines, the gov't knows if you are a memeber of the NRA or any other organization. Your surname is on the mail. You could make an educated guess on how many adults live in the home, related or unrelated. The possibilities are endless and frightening. The gestapo would have a field day with zip codes. Peace.
i agree with all that, but in current state we are living in today it doesn't really matter, who would own this information. even if mail was delivered by private corp, any corp would be more than happy to give this info on silver platter to the gvt at his first request. i remember gvt was asking search engine companies for something like this while ago and they immediately "fully cooperated" the excuse will be somewhat "usual"-war on whatever..drugs,terrorism,child pornography..doesn't matter..
