----you missing the point here pal..it's not about overhead..it's about professional, intelligent, jobs that require certain mindset and creativity + lot of knowledge and education vs low/basic skill jobs.jobs that cave man can do it... not programmers vs plumbers in particular..--- go back to page 10
http://schools.nyc.gov/TeachNYC/salary/default.htm as you can see-i'm not making this s**t up and i can go on forever on this subject..cause i see it every single day. right on front of me. and have plenty of relatives working in IT for private and nonprofit corps
So any caveman can be a teacher, is that what you're saying? This is a job that, to get the top salary, you have to have a Masters. You're not making any sense at all. Stop handwaving and answer the simple question before us: are you contending that a typical programmer is going to make 50k 10 years from now?
having a masters doesn't make a person a master at teaching.. it means that u have obtained a certain number of credits beyond your college degree. american students are mediocre by international standards. teachers should be paid accordingly.
maybe so, but when you send your child to school, how poor do you want their teacher to be? I really don't think our problem is overpaid teachers or overpaid mailmen. If you overpay someone who is incompetent or mediocre, you'll get it all back. We're sitting at 16 trillion, maybe it's time to look for bigger fish to fry.
Meaningless statement. Teachers are paid according to what each local district decides. There are tens of thousands of school districts, and people decide where to live based on the quality of the education provided, or at least that's what they do where I live. I live, because I have chosen to, in the district that is, as far as I know, the most expensive in NJ. I got what I paid for as far as my son's education is concerned, too. Now, back to the point: anyone who comes up with the extraordinarily stupid argument that a programmer only makes 50k and will only make that 10 years from now, firstly, has no idea what he's talking about, and secondly, may himself be that programmer, in which case that person needs to find another career and stop being envious of the postman, for cryin' out loud. I mean, pathetic wouldn't begin to describe such a person.
"meaningless statement. " your response is dribble because you don't recognize the connection between output and salary in a capitalist society. "I live, because I have chosen to, in the district that is, as far as I know, the most expensive in NJ. I got what I paid for as far as my son's education is concerned, too." students in your district may be better than average but they don't compare to the best korean or chinese students. you are fooling yourself if you think that you are getting your money's worth .it is a typical self serving illusion common to parents in the US that their kid's education is good but public education in general stinks. "I mean, pathetic wouldn't begin to describe such a person. " personalizing is for people who cannot present a coherent counterpoint. "extraordinarily stupid argument that a programmer only makes 50k and will only make that 10 years from now, firstly, has no idea what he's talking about" are you forecasting what the job market in the US will be in 10 years for programmers as opposed to teachers and postman who get automatic increases and are rarely fired for mediocrity.
"meaningless statement. " that's all he got as an argument..this and some direct, offensive statements ----Typical. You're a 1. loser... 2. ...who blames others for being one. Your numbers are laughably stupid.---- that was it..sounds like truly intelligent, educated person..or maybe it's a typical product of US public education system?
None of this has anything to do with anything but your obsessions. I don't give a flying patootie what happens in China or Korea re education. Makes no difference at all in my life, and if their education is better than ours and it leads to me being able to buy better stuff, how is that something I'm supposed to be upset about? You guys go back and forth from one argument to the next without making any logical connection between them. My arguments are very simple: the Post Office was considered a necessary part of a well-functioning government by the guys who actually set it up. It costs nothing in taxes despite the evidence-free statements made in this thread re that. Ergo, if they're in trouble and need some help from the Feds, we should be able to give that help, since self-evidently (to anyone but an ET poster, apparently) they cost less than any other agency of government in terms of taxpayer burden. That's it. All this other stuff you guys bring in is so much irrelevant handwaving.
15 billion dollar loss is a mirage? " don't give a flying patootie what happens in China or Korea re education. Makes no difference at all in my life, and if their education is better than ours" when america becomes a 2nd world country because there is a shortage of skilled labor and is bankrupt because of debt to finance the overextended public sector you believe it will not affect you or your son. continue to believe in sand castles. 'You guys go back and forth from one argument to the next without making any logical connection between them." again you personalize and have nor presented a counter argument. just for the record does your wife work for the government?
