Using Oz Scans

  1. Tony,

We have a variety of games that we play. I'm thinking about starting another thread about them. Some of the games are:

2 card choosy, with a buy (HI-LO). Highest hand is two aces. Lowest hand is ace, duece. Deal one down, bet, deal second card down and roll one up (roll your own), bet, optionally exchange your up or down card with a new card from the deck for a buck (buy), bet, coin declare (under the table put none for low, one for high, two for both - must beat both to win both), bet again and see who the winners are.

El Diablo (5 card draw, call your own wildcard, if you open you must win or MATCH the pot). I refuse to open any more. Twice in the past I have opened with 5 of a kind, took no cards on the draw, bet my ass off, and got beaten both times by a higher 5 of a kind (5 Aces).

    Oklahoma (Sometimes called Omaha)

Low Blow Hole (7 card stud, low in the hole is wild. Pay extra to have the last card up)

    7, 28

    13, 33

    Blue

    Two card Monty

    Auction
This is a great game. (HI-LO) A,2,3,4,5 being the best low so you can go both ways. I play commissioned. Deal 6 cards to each player. Deal 4 spit cards. The dealer flips over the first spit card, an open auction commences. The purchaser discards a card and the auction commences - except this time the seller gets a 50% commission of the card he just discarded. When no one bids on a card it is burried and the next spit card is turned. After bidding is finished, discard one card, arrange your cards an lay them down. Everyone flips a card and bets. After 4 cards are flipped, coin declare and final betting round.

The great thing about this game is that you can be a seller. I hold the record of $50 for a card. The guy who sold it was extremely happy that he got $25. Usually 10 bucks is a lot for a card. 50 cents is a bargain.

    Pass the trash

    3 Card choosy

    5 card choosy(stud) with a buy

    Texas Hold'em

    5 card stud

There are others, these are the latest popular ones. It is good to mix it up after playing for so many years. We are alway making new games or variants.

Lots of games and creativity :)

I would only play (back in the glory/college days) 7 card stud and some hold'em (if they had a big Jackpot). Now, I get to play maybe once a year or every other year.

  3. That's good - you'll be a little rusty, so I'll have the edge.

  4. Better Late than never!

Long CMLS (Don't remember which scan)

    Entry 23.11
Target 21.55 (Previous high of the day)
    Stop 20.95

The price was hanging at $21.00 from 11:40 until 12:40. It started to move up. I chased it instead of waitng for a pullback which killed my r/r ratio. It traded up to $21.45 and reversed. I got stopped out at $21.17. In hingsight, I should have swept the bid when it hit $21.45 because it was only .10 from my target. I risked .28 to make .10 - not good.

The gold mining sector has had an incredible run in the past few months. I was wondering if any of the scans picked it up.
I am talking about stocks like DROOY, KGC, BGO, GFI, HGMCY , RIC, CBJ as well as some of the silver miners like HL, SSRI, PAAS.

    Thanks

  6. Long DUK (Bottom Fisher)

    Entry 33.96
    Stop 33.85
    Target 34.52 (Friday's High)

Did everything OK. Turned out to be the right stock at the wrong time. Maybe I should have tried again after noon when the Utility index started trading up again.

    Long ADVP (Bottom Fisher)

    Entry 26.63
    Stop 26.50
    Target 27.50 (Friday's High)

It was forming an ascending triangle. I thought that I would enter before it broke out. It never did, broke down instead. Got stopped out at 26.53. This is the second time I got burned buying an ascending triangle before it breaks. For now on I wait for the break and pullback!

I found today a difficult day to trade because the NAS100 Emini found support around 1285 and traded between 1285 - 1300 for the rest of the day. Pretty cool how these levels were the lows on 5/15 and 5/16.

    Chipdude,

AU and GG were on today's Usual Suspects NYSE scan.

This is just an update from me to say that I still intend to write about the scans. I found it informative that tony mentioned he thought the market was tough last week for the scans also. I am looking at the scans everyday. I am just not seeing much that I want to trade. I made a little on teva the other day but I am just not taking more than one or two trades off the scans. I made 9 bucks on nvda today but that is really not worth writing about on a consistent basis. As soon as I see more I will be trading them again. I should have obviously taken some skyscrapper's today but I have had success with the non market leaders so I mostly traded the futures today. By the way I do not think it is a scan problem as much as the fact that we have been mostly in very tight ranges with low volume and then a spike overnight. Please do not tell me I have to deal because I am dealing I am just making note of what is obvious to real intraday traders. The atr of the stocks overall is very low with occassional range breakouts. Can you make money in this environment, of course. Is it easy - no.

  8. Today's trade

    Long SPLS (Usual Suspects)

    Entry @ 21.76
    Stop @ 21.59
    Target @ 22.45 (High on 4/10/02)

I had a good entry. The futures worked against me the whole time. I got stopped out at 21.90.

It was painful looking for a trade since 11:00. It seems like everything thats going to move already moved.
