i'm new to IB and am using a router connection, which works fine. Just wanted to know if any of you guys use IB behind a firewall and if it works well or not.

I'm thinking of using zone alarm.

    Thanks.

that's good to hear, coz i heard some others have problems with it. I think cybertrader cant go behind one (or has quite a bit of trouble with it).

    Thanks guys.

I have esignal with IB standalone and zonealarm pro. Zonealarm is absolutely faultless in my personal experiences. Nothing to get worried about here.

    TWS works fine behind NAT.

    NAT is not a firewall.

Yes, but if you are "behind a firewall" you are either using NAT or a proxy server to talk to the outside world. (Unless you're using some crappy consumer desktop-only firewall.)

Hence, the reason I said what I said.

TWS (and most things) work fine behind "personal firewalls" like ZA.

The problems occur when you are behind a corporate firewall, and don't have access (and can't bribe someone that has access) to change settings on it. If they can't open the port/protocol combination for you that TWS uses, it won't work. I expect the same is true of Cyber and other non-web-based platforms.
