I tend to disagree. If the post is so good, it actually has something tangible that really stands out, or some proof behind the claim. I agree that other traders don't care to educate, which is totally fine, it isn't their job or their requirement to, but then just STFU. It never helps to tell someone just buy low and sell high. This is such an abstract statement that its useless. Here is another one. Some say to never trade a breakout, others say to chase breakouts. Both can be right, and both can be wrong. But on their own, these statements are useless. Now of course you have some smart sounding hot shot trader come in and say its all depends on context, which is true, but once again, with the context mentioned, the statement is useless. Most of what is posted on ET is useless, and of course its not like someone will come here and give away their trading plan down to the T, but without mentioning at least some specifics or some small little part when they are trying to make a point, then what they are saying is more than likely useless. If, as part of membership, you had to state if you a) actually trade, and b) are profitable, and if there was a way to prove this, I think out of 1000 people who post a few times a week, there would only be about 10 who fulfill this criteria, and honestly, those are the guys who don't post about trading for the most part. So my point is, if you're gonna talk about trading, you need to show something tangible, because the odds are that your post will be useless, you're not trading for real, or you're nowhere close to being consistently profitable.
It sounds like to me that you simply want to troll handle123 and you don't like the fact that the block feature makes it a pain for you to do it. The feature works as intended and it won't be changed.
Thank you for making an official post on this. I think you're completely wrong about this, but I know that what is good for me, and most people trying to learn after all, is not good for the website. If posts could be vetted for accuracy, the traffic would slow down to a crawl. I have received PM's about multiple, multiple times where Handle123 is challenged and not one time can he defend himself, and these are challenges by members that have been here for a very long time. This is of course lost to some new guy coming along and starting fresh. If your mandate for ET is to promote education about trading, you should make an effort to promote the accuracy of what is shared on ET. If you do not have the capability to do so, at the very least, your broad member base has been trying to do this, but this is clearly lost given the block feature and an inability to dislike comments or have some sort of rating system, etc. The members with the most posts are not necessarily always the smartest ones, or the ones with best intentions. One way to increase traffic is through trash talk, which works well, and its what sells trash magazines. But imagine if you actually had a website where those traders who are real and legit stood out from the crowd. Trash talk is always just a fad, but honest, factual and informative postings tend to have a lasting effect. Unfortunately, a person has to be around for quite a while before they can separate the two. Once again, if ET was to be a place to promote trading education positively, it would be easier to decipher what is real and what isn't, without leaving it up to the newbie who is ill-equipped to do so for years.
