  1. Quote from gnome:

(BTW... most of the time, Congress merely rubber-stamps whatever the President wants...)

    This is no excuse

Didn't offer it as an excuse... just a statement of fact.

How about this as a conspiracy theory ?

Bush &co, get fed up being criticized and decide to take more and more power until they are like dictators. If Putin can do exactly that, then why not elsewhere.
Step 1 is to scare the people so badly that they give you overall power to " sort out the mess ".
    a) get everyone scared of something e.g. terrorism. The reality is Bin Laden is really only a relatively impotent old lunatic. But the fear factor has given the Exec sweeping powers to arrest and detain people.

O.K. so that isn't quite enough , so ratchet up the fear and awe by having a general financial crisis too.

What better way than affect everyone financially through the banks almost collapsing. The exec puts forward a plan to "rescue" the nation. This involves giving them even more powers.

Could this scenario really be happening ?

If it is by the time people realize they have got a dictator it will be too late. Any small pockets of resistance would be crushed on the excuse that they are linked to terrorism or something.

    Its for YOU to decide

Oh, I get it now. You don't care about taxes because you can't make any money... so you don't have to pay taxes...

  9. Starting w/the BearStearns collapse, congress convened only the fourth 'secret' meeting in its history. The transcript that described the calling the meeting is available. The 'rumored', rumored in sense that money buys goods, was that the politicians were deciding how best they protect their well being should the citizens, shall we say, 'acted up'.

There were some Presidential actions taken in the following days, including some martial law powers that were featured on a CSpan broadcast. No one paid a bit of attention, as the narrator spit and hollered. No one paid cared. These are not opinions. They are facts. Looking at the events of that last few weeks, you can appreciate what the idiots were seeing. And you can also appreciate they knew, and did nothing. For Fuld told them he was next. And that led to the breaking of the money markets.

If there is any good news in this, and there really isn't, we have their attention.

  10. Have you find a country where you don't have to pay taxes and offer you the same rights and security and opportunities?

Please keep mouthing off the country that provide you the very right to mouth them off and the security and comfort of a home (property right and freedom of speech). And please offer no solution to the problems and complain. You are very good at it.

Like I said, if you don't like it here, leave. No one forcing you to be here.
