WTF is going on with the Open? The men's match featuring the number one seed, Nadal, and American Mardy Fish started after 11 PM last night. It was preceded by a women's match featuring the Williams sisters. I think it is unfair and ridiculous to ask someone to play a match that late. It puts the winner under a severe disadvantage for his next match. I don't even know how it turned out, and I think the Tv numbers must have been awful for what should have been one of the most watched matches of the event. I don't know if the blame goes to TV or the event officials, but it was a major disaster and embarrassment.
As least the Williams match did not go three sets or the second match that night would have started past midnight. Hey AAA what caused the problem is that USA network did not start the Williams match on time instead they promoted it so much that it got such a late start pushing Nadalâs match way into the night.
I think they way overestimate how popular the Williams sisters are. Most tennis fans I know, myself included, can't stand them. I saw enough of their match last night to say with 100% certainty that they treated it as an exhibition, ie result predetermined. Very disappointing and doubly so when it ruined the men's draw.
so you have a keen tennis mind as well. I rarely enjoy their matches -- It sort of reminds me of watching barry bonds hit (late in his career). Sure he has a remarkable swing and great results... but does it really matter?
