Did they? I thought it was more the cost and the fact that too many people were dying. It took them ten or so years to do it too, assuming they were successful.
That was good. Unfortunately, they then went and undid that good karma by starting a whole lot of wars when they got access to the Big Chair.
the debt problem is originated by taxing oil. taxes upon taxes upon taxes. the more it costs, the more everything cost. so you have to borrow to meet your needs. banking and oil sectors are two of the biggest in every economy. without taxing oil, the banking would have very little money flow. and debt will not be required, or severly diminished. banks make profits on debts.
the other factor why U.S. and europe have debt problem: women. women spend more than they earn. education, homes, home furniture, designer clothes, jewellery, etc. women force men to buy them hell LOTS of things. thats why the West is in ever increasing DEBT. Why Asians are mostly debt free? because men lead the household finances. Well, except Japan. Why Muslims are not in debt? they say NO to f#cking fractional reserve banking and lending with interest.
What happened to the money? You already know. Much of it was wasted and some of it was used for "services". It went into the real estates in Washington, lawyers, bureaucratic pensions, lobbyist's pockets, transfer payments, handouts to big corporations, advertising etc. It has always amazed me that people believe in tax and spend. For every dollar taken, some of it disappears in administration costs. Charities are required to report that amount but government is not required to. Why not? Would taxpayers be so content to hand it over if they knew the efficiency of their investment in "services". If the government really did produce something of value for the money they remove from other potentially productive purposes, that fact would be trumpeted by every politician and lobbyist. Unfortunately the silence is deafening!
