US doomed ?

    I am strongly in favor of going to a progressive sales tax to replace our present income tax. My own returns have gotten horribly complicated and I would love not to have to bother with them. I also like the idea of making it harder for people dealing in cash to duck paying their fair share. Surely the present overhead costs of overseeing tax compliance and collection could be reduced some as well. Now we have to figure out what bones can be thrown to all the CPA's and tax attorneys to get them on board as well. That might be a wee bit difficult.

  2. Without these folks we'd still have the 1986 tax structure in place, still the closest thing to perfection we ever achieved. As I have posted before, it was predicted at the time that its simplicity would be a victim of these people, especially since most politicians are themselves lawyers.
    And so it was.
