URGENT, Secure Device Required for TWS

  1. I know some IB customers dont like this idea, but IB should also provide an automated SD device for ATS users.

As someone else mentioned in another thread, this new security device is not going to work. The only way a criminal can get hold of your login details (unless you're stupid enough to respond to a phishing email) is if they get you to install a trojan on your computer. If they install a trojan on your computer, they have total control over it so will be able to control TWS whenever you are logged in. They would then just have to wait until you're away from your computer (e.g. lunchtime) to do whatever they want to do. Turn autoupdate on in Windows and your AV software, don't do stupid things like installing mysexypics.scr or freepornsoftware.exe and run a firewall and you'll be secure. This IB gimmick is not going to help.

No need to cry fault. SD will be a fact of life.
Just like condoms, it is a minor inconvenience for a lot of pleasure.
    (until your account blows up).

  5. Employees of IB may state something on this forum, but is it considered official? I put more weight on the email sideshowbob got, and it did not mention any opt-out

  6. This may be a good reason to change broker. Using a device for trading is quite stupid. Imagine if you are logged out for some reason, how many minutes you have to spend loggin again because of the stupid device.

Besides, like a guy said, this doens't change the fact that a computer can be hacked remotely in a TWS session already logged in.

Another one, suppose that you lost your device, or you get stolen in the street, or the device fall into the floor and its broken.

You wont be able to trade until stupid IB sends you a new device. Amazing.

Clearly, the IB management thinks they know too much about tech and stuff but they don't know shit about real trading.

WHY DON'T APPLY THE DEVICE AT ACCOUNT MANAGER ONLY ????

And for TWS the IP Restrictions ????

IF IB FORCE CUSTOMERS AT USE THIS DEVICE ....... IB LOST MANY CUSTOMERS!!!!

  8. They really need to look into allowing users to block trading of penny stocks.

First, I doubt many users trade them. Without penny stocks none of those scams can work -- you can't move a big cap stock for a scam. Even penny stock traders could specify in account management (protected by a STP device) which stocks they want to trade (allowed penny stocks) which would additionally protect users.

Next they need to provide the ability to specify in account management which IP addresses are allowed to login to TWS. If account management (or that part of account management) is protected by the STP device then no hackers can get into it. Arguments against this include spoofing IP addresses -- but as was already mentioned if they can get onto your machine you're done -- which is why blocking penny stocks is necessary.

  10. Most of the screamers are on this thread probably have adviser accounts.

IB will roll this out to other accounts too. Hopefully there will be enough screaming at the adviser level that there is an opt out before it hits individual and other types of accounts.
