That's not a lack of Ram, that's annoying Spy/Adware running in the background.

Goto NiNite.com and install / update and run SpyBot 2 and Ad Aware and Malwarebytes, don't get from elsewhere, too many scammer sites pretending to be them.

Turveyd is so right about these.

Also a 4gb stick of ram is cheap and depending on what your doing it will speed up the system a bit. And help handle loads. Much more than that and you won't see any gains.

I am running 32gb of ram in my laptop. Its a bit overkill to say the least. But i run a program that will use it all.

    Got to HATE ADWARE Crappppp!!!

My FireFox ram leaks got to 1GB area before freezing, SVHOST goes to 500mb+ to, kill the both then I'm fine for a few hours, major pain in the ass mind.

Need to reinstall windows as nothing is fixing it, but can't be arsed!!

better to first stop watching porn. That malware must be coming from somewhere...I never had a single virus nor malware on my system but then I also pay for each and every single software license unless I use opensource/freeware that has been properly vetted and tested by others

Only watch porn via Ipad so not that.

Maybe FireFox is just leaky buggy crap or Facebook page I have up, it was down to 20mins at times, upto twice per day.

Got a pretty new I7 here 8gb ram, super fast graphics card, huge huge fancy case, just got to buy a SSD for it, then I can play Call of Duty all night :)

hmm, I remember people where shouted to death on this site for praising or recommending anything Microsoft related or even google chrome. Firefox was the clear favorite in the threads I read. I have used Google chrome from the very beginning since it came out. Never looked back, never even touched Firefox once. Edge also seems very good for anyone using Windows OS.

I use Chrome and Firefox, prefer the way the bookmarks / tabs work on Firefox though, why I haven't just switched across.

Hated all the IE's and Edge, never used to run IE6, the 3 times I ran it, instantly got virus'd , talking open IE don't even use and instantly being attacked, refused to run it since.

  8. Assuming the "not accessible/upgradable" is wrong, take the RAM out and check the label on it. It may tell you the voltage and everything else you need to know.

If you can use 16GB, you should be able to buy the 8GB stick (identical specs except size, of course) and add to your system for 12GB total.

HP manual can be found on this page scroll down 2 posts.

My guess the not accessible/up-gradable disclaimer is due to warranty invalidation if consumer opens case. Agree with Scat, if two memory slots are available, buy a matching 8gb stick for total of 12gb. (after rule #1)

Regarding the screen lock, before I spent money on memory, I would close all un-needed background apps and see if using just the necessary programs stops the issue, (keep task manager window open to watch ram/cpu usage).

If the puter pukes running just trading apps (or basic MS office) and 1-2 browser windows, doubt ram update will fix the problems, most likely have other issues...

rule #1, identify the problem before you apply the cure.
rule #2, only change one variable at a time, to determine the problem
rule #3, google is your friend, use it...

  10. Thanks for the advice. I did read the owner's manual from their website.

As a matter of fact, the day I bought the computer, I found the link with all my computer specs on it , copied it to a word document with all the specs I might possibly need from my iphone, router and printer. That way I have all the specs in one convenient place.

The problem I had was that the HP site did not give me enough information to find the right RAM. And when I called the HP Customer Service they said that there was no end user information available and recommended I take it to an authorized retailer.

Then I went to Crucial and My Computer and neither one of them had anything listed for my 1 month old computer.

Best Buy was no help. The guy in the computer department knew less than me and the guy in the Geek Squad told me I had to order the RAM online from Best Buy. But BB did not carry the proper RAM.

That raised a red flag for me.

So, I came here asking a few questions, found a HP chat room and some dude with 10,000 posts gave me the right info after I confirmed it by removing the back of the laptop.

I had to get a new screw driver that was tiny enough to work. I had to get a new screw driver that was tiny enough to work. I probably have 25 screwdrivers. But I never manage to find the one I need when it is needed. Even if I have 2, 3 of the same size. But those screws were tiny and I did not want to chew them up or damage the cover.

I got the instructions for replacing it from a youtube video posted by a guy from India.

It took 10 minutes to remove 12 tiny screws and 20 minutes to remove the cover. I was afraid of breaking it.

I added 8 more RAM for a total of 12 and it runs noticeably faster.

Unfortunately, my CD drawer does not open even after I removed the back and replaced it twice, trying to fix the problem. It's not a big deal right now though.....I rarely use them anymore. I bet I have not used it in the last 6 months.

But....I have gotten pretty damn good at removing and replacing the back of the laptop now.

And I am not a kid. I am old enough to have adult kids and I am probably as old as you.

    Thanks for your concern.
