Lol. Last election the mantra was “voter fraud.” This time around it’s “ballot harvesting.” If these republicans spent half the time working on their get out the vote efforts as they do on spreading lies and conspiracy theories they might actually win some of the elections they lost.
I'm not saying any of it is a crime. In fact, I'm explicitly referring to activities that are allowed by law. I'm just saying it shouldn't happen - which is my opinion only. You are 100% correct, it is a shitty ground operation by Republicans because they don't do this ballot harvesting. They should, where legal. But that doesn't mean I don't believe the process should be made illegal. Further, and to say this once more, I'm not talking about making mail in ballots illegal. Lets assume they stay as they are. Then there is no need for a third party to harvest ballots whatsoever. If you can't make the trip or don't want to, you simply mail in your ballot. Why is any third party needed to go door to door to get ballots and turn them in for you? All that does is weaken the custody chain of the ballot, and sew distrust upon the voting process.
What will be amusing is when republicans do become more savvy and start ballot harvesting, and start winning elections because of it. Then we'll start seeing folks on the left condemning the process, and it'll be funny to revisit comments like this. Because you can bet your ass its gonna happen.
Now we are getting into the political science of this. Republican voters tend to be highly reliable voters. By and large, they typically participate in elections and stay within their party. Interestingly, with his populist streak, Trump opened the party up to untraditional republican voters. The Republican Party would benefit with a get out the vote effort with these voters. As to the rest of all of this, I really don’t see any issue with collecting votes or registrations. It really is t out of the ordinary it’s just republicans have been bad at it. Yes, coupling it with incentives such as a gift card or down right coercing voters is illegal. But the two are not synonymous with collecting.
it won't because the con mantra became "mail-in votes=fraud, ballot harvesting=fraud, electronic voting=fraud, in-person paper ballot voting=only legitimate method". I'm all for their self-sabotage.
Again, I'm not talking about Republican or Democrat voters. I'm talking about shepherding and harvesting votes of people who simply couldn't care less. Which is approximately 40% or more of the population.
