I strongly disagree. Thus, Asians are in fact, has been listed as minorities and not blended in (integrated as you refer to it)...reason why they still have their own statistical group, unlike someone those that are Italian American, Dutch American, White European American like my own mother that's blended in within the category White. Therefore, minorities has not typically been used as a shorthand for Blacks and Hispanics only but I will admit that I've seen it used as such but by others that are fixated only on one group of minority. A racial or ethnic group that is a small percentage of the U.S. population. Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians or Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians or Other Pacific Islanders, Asians, and persons reporting more than one race. With that said, there's a more educated discussion occurring these days that weren't part of the discussion back in the day when I was in college...that phrase is "UnderRepresented Minorities". The above phrase is abbreviated as "URM"...a topic that some of those links you recommend that I read on google are in reference to. URM involves Women, persons with disabilities, and three racial and ethnic groups—Blacks, Hispanics, and American Indians or Alaska Natives. I will take the above a little further that there are those that believe in error that URM represents only Blacks when it in fact represents the above-mentioned groups. Swinging back to your comments about the Supreme Court should get rid of Affirmative Action...in which I replied that such will never happen considering one individual on the Supreme Court is in fact Hispanic, another is White with adopted black children and two are in fact Black. There's an existing bias right there and one of them has a spouse that secretly advocates for Affirmative Action with the approval of her husband that sits on the Supreme Court. In contrast, they will reside over cases that comes in front of them about specific disparities in the application process of specific cases involving specific universities but they will not create new laws nor punish other universities that are properly using Affirmative Action. By the way, a military officer buddy of mine is White and he attended a traditionally Black university. Affirmative Action helped him get into that university and his academic performance was on par with everyone else (black students) in the engineer department. He was valedictorian of his high school graduating class...an all white high school. wrbtrader
unfortunately this data is misleading because it does not take into account the number of applicants in each category.
U.S. Medical care is generally bad. In specific cases it is wonderful, but in general it is quite bad. U.S. Medical care is the poster child for "Regulatory Capture" and "Rent Seeking". It has an economically frightening attribute. It is going to consume the entirety of U.S. GDP if allowed to continue on its same path. Of course this can't happen, so it is only a matter of time before major re-vamping can no longer be avoided. In the meantime of course we will continue down the path of piecemeal changes. We have not recognized that medical care can not fit well into a capitalist mold because it is missing the main requirement for such. We did better during the days before clinic medicine when most physicians were in private practice and free to adjust their fees according to ability to pay. In those bygone days, a physician's own conscience and morality was responsible for adjusting for the inherent failure of capitalism to fit the medical needs of the people.
There aren't many blacks in the right hand category, but that doesn't make the chart misleading. The issue is how similarly qualified candidates are treated differently because of race.
I strongly believe the above are key areas that are part of the puzzle as to why the United States performed so badly in this Covid Pandemic. Recently while traveling through three countries (Canada, France and the United States) to visit Universities with one of my teenagers to help him decide which university he plans to attend for his college education...I decided to visit one of my siblings (youngest brother) in Kentucky that works as an EMT. We were discussing the United States' poor covid performance with his girlfriend (a medical student) and she had an interesting article for me to read that she printed out for me. ------- Racial and ethnic minorities receive inferior medical treatment by the health care industry and are being subjected to high rates of preventable medical errors. Moreover, racial and ethnic minorities are uninsured more often than non-Hispanic whites, a status that frequently results in substandard care. As a result, proposals that limit the rights of patients who have been killed or injured due to medical malpractice disproportionately hurt racial and ethnic minorities. ------- Furthering the above from a Harvard Medical Practice study: People of color were significant differences between hospitals that serve a predominantly minority population and other hospitals. That is, people of color were more likely to be hospitalized at institutions with more AEs [adverse events] and higher rates of negligence in comparison to being hospitalized at institutions with fewer AEs and fewer negligence. We then took a drive to three cities known to have a large population of poor people but not a large population of minorities. Simply, a lot of poor White people in Kentucky. These communities had high numbers of Covid deaths, and hospitalizations but a lot of uninsured people that had jobs that they didn't have healthcare benefits. Simply, when they have a severe Covid illness, they were less likely to receive even routine medical procedures and experience a lower quality of health services. Would having a Union make a difference for proper or adequate employment healthcare benefits ??? His girlfriend and him then said it's much worst in other poor areas with people of color and places of people with disabilities in which he showed me a factory that had hundreds of employees but the factory has a subpar health insurance program, pregnant women working while 8 months pregnant with company medical doctors that had an unusual number of malpractice lawsuits with a high win rate against the suits...the latter not uncommon because most lawsuits against Doctors are not won anywhere in the United States. Also, my other brother is a Doctor in South Dakota and has been working hard to get the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to do a study about the impact of Covid Pandemic in the Indigenous communities of the Dakotas. I had never heard of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and they recently completed a Covid study in White Plains, New York. Therefore, I decided to visit White Plains, New York in route to Cornell University with my son because we had a schedule visit with a professor that's a very close friend at Cornell. Cornell is a university on my son's list of universities to visit to help him dwindle down his college choice to just three that he plans to apply. I found out that those in White Plains, New York are without health coverage that were hospitalized are more likely to receive fewer services, experience second-rate care, and die in the hospital of their severe Covid illness. Further, most were were either immigrants or undocumented that didn't have medical insurance including those immigrants that were legal citizens of the United States...many living a multi-family households. The above is what my son and I saw first hand with the problem the United States had with those most vulnerable in this Covid Pandemic. My teenager looked at me and thanked me for deciding to raise a family not in the United States and instead in a country that has Universal Healthcare. Yet, its bittersweet for me. I'll stop here before talking about what I saw in the city of Chicago while visiting the University of Chicago (Hyde Park) and Northwestern (Evanston...location of my 2nd home). They are two completely different communities with two of the world's top universities. wrbtrader
So why are they not fixing this disparity in the NBA, NFL, MLB, entertainment and politics? Asians have almost 0% representation in these areas. Why are liberals okay with that? Just because they're Asian? Liberals are okay with discrimination in one area, but in other areas merit rules. Why the continual double standard and hypocrisy by liberals?
A good example is the new Lord of the Rings TV show, Rings of Power. The showrunners made it clear they wanted a diverse TV show. However there is not one actor of East Asian, South Asian or Hispanic heritage.
I'm not sure what "liberals" have to do with sports considering most team owners are Republican supporters in the specific sports you've just mentioned. Regardless, sports is a different issue because I'm confident it's based upon "athletic performance" from the Collegiate level to the Professional level. In fact, the last time I checked...pro basketball, and pro football are not the typical sports that Asians try to pursue a professional sports career. In contrast, I've seen Asians pursue professional sports careers in soccer, mma, tennis, golf (big time), and boxing in the United States...sports that typically have a financial barrier whereas in comparison...Basketball and Football have less of a financial barrier. Simply, no discrimination in those sports that I listed. Yet, I've heard of discrimination against Asian NHL players...a sport that many probably do not know is growing fast with Asian hockey players especially on the youth and college level where people tend to associate Affirmative Action concerns. As for Hollywood (entertainment) - John Cho is one of my favorite actors of all the actors I like. Yet, I'm not sure what is his political view nor do I know if he's made any political statements to be discriminated about. https://www.ranker.com/list/best-asian-american-actors/celebrity-lists wrbtrader
You really don't understand my post do you? Asians have zero representation in those areas. In sports, it's definitely not because of racism. But a huge imbalance exists. Why are liberals who espouse diversity not taking measures to right those massive imbalances? Because they're Asians. Democrats are hypocrites when it comes to Asian representation.
