I don't think Canada or England have found the best solution. Many people believe that those systems work better than the fractured system we have in the US. There is something inherently fairer and more equitable about one, single insurance system that is at least intended to provide the same coverage to everyone--however you define the term everyone in this context. If this sounds like "socialism," or "socialized medicine," well, it is. There are some very coherent arguments that health care is a basic right that no one should have to pay for. I will concede that in a single-payer system, where the government is the insurance carrier for every patient, you still have the same inherent conflict of interest. The government needs a bureaucracy that approves or denies claims. And the government benefits from denying claims, because it spends less money that way. So the problem doesn't go away completely. But the government, at least in theory, is not a for-profit corporation whose primary fiduciary duty is to its shareholders. The government nevertheless has an incentive to spend less money, but the motivation for doing so is different, and that changes the game in a fundamental way.
My first job with healthcare denied every medical claim sent their way. Finally the teamsters filed a lawsuit against the managed care company(I don’t remember if it was Pacific Care.). The California AG got involved, under oath the bastard claims adjusters admitted they blanket denied 100% hoping people would walk away. Management told them too. Eventually the company filed bankruptcy robbing local doctors of $30,000,000 causing several to file bankruptcy themselves and leave their practices. The CEOs and directors, they made off. So easy for these crooks to rob without penalty.
You can buy stock in UNH. They are leading the race to the bottom. Read the articles. They are making huge profits while denying claims that are legitimate.
I wrote puts on them that expired worthless back in March. No position currently but we'll see what the future holds.
Had opposite experience at NYU Langone - and they were the best I ever experienced in NY or Flroiduh.
