Uninterruptable power supply devices

    for the cluster, and a smaller upright (1250) upright also from TippLite for my trading workstation.

    The 1500 VA is rack mountable and can be daisy chained, both of those points are important to me. Also, I can plug into a standard three prong outlet that is in most homes these days, also important. Be careful to not buy one of the high VA ratings UPS - most of those require dedicated electrical lines that 99% of us do not have in our homes.

    When deciding on which one to buy, you need to add up the VA rating of all your equipment and then that is how much juice you need.

    One hint is, keep your printer off the UPS.

  2. here's another tip...

    you may not really need as much power as you think. for example, say your computer's power supply is 250 watts. that is its maximum. when you use your computer, it may actually be half that. also, your computer uses more power when booting than while idle.

    the average new computer and monitor probably use less than 200 watts during normal use.
