Horseshit. Provide demographics on hospitalized patients in the last 60 days, please, so we can determine how "young and healthy" they really are.

First some larger context via articles...

Young, unvaccinated people are being hospitalized with Covid-19 as delta variant spreads, officials warn
"We are seeing patients in their 20s and 30s who are otherwise healthy who are coming because of worsening symptoms," a Kansas doctor said.

Local North Carolina information (2 articles)...
What is driving the surge in COVID-19 hospitalizations in North Carolina?
    https://www.newsobserver.com/news/coronavirus/article252949603.html

The roll-out of coronavirus vaccines last winter helped empty COVID-19 wards and intensive care units at hospitals across North Carolina, as the number of patients dropped from nearly 4,000 in January to a few hundred in June.

Now that trend has reversed, as the more contagious delta variant preys on people who have not gotten vaccinated.

Statewide, 817 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 on Thursday, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services. That number has doubled since early July and is the most since mid-May.

About 94% of new COVID-19 cases are among people who have not been vaccinated
, according to state health officials. And a growing number are among people who have contracted the delta variant of the virus, which spreads more easily than other versions.

“Delta has swamped all of the other types of COVID at this point,” Dr. Mandy Cohen, secretary of the state Department of Health and Human Services, said this week.

Of the coronavirus samples tested at Duke Health hospitals in the Triangle last week, 82% were the delta variant, according to Dr. Adia Ross, chief medical officer at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham.

And of the coronavirus samples collected the week ending July 11 and analyzed by UNC hospitals, 90% were the delta variant, up from less than 10% in June.

Given the spread of the variant across the country, those number aren’t surprising, said Dr. David Wohl,an infectious disease expert at UNC.

The people with COVID-19 ending up in hospitals are different from earlier patients in another important way: They’re younger.

“When we look at the ICU for COVID-19, we’re taking about people in their 30s, 40s and 50s,” Wohl said. “I mean there’s hardly a person there who is older. It just really tells you a completely different story than what we saw before. Much younger people are coming into the hospital.”

Wohl says that reflects the higher vaccination rate among older people in North Carolina. About 57% of adults 18 and up in North Carolina are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but that number jumps to 84% when you look at just those age 65 and older, according to DHHS.

In January, those age 60 and older accounted for about 70% of people hospitalized with COVID-19 in North Carolina. Now it’s about 40%, according to DHHS.

“There’s just fewer people in that age group who are vulnerable,” Wohl said. “The older people have really gotten the message regarding prevention measures and have adopted vaccination at the highest rates.”

Vaccination is not a guarantee against getting sick with COVID-19. From the beginning, the manufacturers and public health officials have noted that the vaccines are 90% to 95% effective, meaning some vaccinated people will get sick.

But it’s rare that vaccinated people end up sick enough to be hospitalized. Ross said she knows of a couple of cases at Duke, and they had underlying health conditions that suppressed their immune systems.

“The vaccines are not 100% foolproof,” she said. “But they’re really, really good in general.”

Ross said the rising hospitalizations are sobering and should temper any sense that the pandemic is over.

“What is hard for folks is that we were celebrating getting vaccinated and so many of us have done that. But there still is work to be done to reach those who are unvaccinated and convince them to get vaccinated,” she said. “We’re not where we were in January, but we also need to remain vigilant.”

Why younger patients are becoming severely ill with COVID-19
    https://abc11.com/covid-in-younger-people-young-patients-severely-ill-coronavirus-us/10566368/

With vaccination totals increasing and coronavirus cases declining across the country, many Americans are feeling a newfound sense of hope, that perhaps, there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel.

However, health and government officials across the country are continuing to warn that the virus is still spreading among unvaccinated populations, with a larger share of younger Americans becoming infected, and in some cases, hospitalized with severe cases of the virus.

For the first time, patients between the ages of 18 and 64 now account for the largest cohort of the 37,000 total patients currently hospitalized with the virus. With more older Americans vaccinated, this marks the third week that the number of hospitalized individuals in the 65 and older age group has been smaller than both the 18-49, and the 50-64 age groups.

"Hospitals are seeing more and more younger adults, those in their 30s and 40s, admitted with severe disease," Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky reported during a press briefing earlier this month.

There is an in-depth study from Scotland on their hospital admissions for the Delta variant. The appendices have all the charts etc. including number of clinical risk factors, etc.

"We're seeing, said some doctor." No data, anectodal.

Paywall. Save us both some time and provide the source data. If its anecdotal like above, don't waste my time.

"“I talk to the doctors, and they’re treating 20-year-olds, 30-years-olds, 50-year olds,” Love explained." Same thing. Anecdotal. I talk to the doctors. Sure. No data.

Links to other articles, no data. Links to the Covid Dashboard for NC, plenty of data. I don't see any data on the age of any patients hospitalized or anything else. Happy to change my mind if you've got the demographics.

Please provide the link to the source data that backs up these numbers?

There has to be data somewhere, right? All of these articles sound suspiciously like they are parroting the same source.

Links to an ABC article that in turn links to the Florida DoH website that shows this chart:

    upload_2021-7-27_15-2-29.png

Looks like new cases are evenly dispersed between 15 and 64 years of age, but hospitalizations still show overwhelming 55 to 84 years. There is no evidence here of hospitals being full of younger patients due to COVID. Again, I'm just using the chart referenced in the article. If you've got better data, show it.

This in-depth study shows nothing on ages of hospitalized patients. The only thing it says is this:

In summary, we show that the Delta VOC in Scotland was found mainly in younger, more affluent groups. Risk of COVID-19 hospital admission was approximately doubled in those with the Delta VOC when compared to the Alpha VOC, with risk of admission particularly increased in those with five or more relevant comorbidities. Both the Oxford–AstraZeneca and Pfizer–BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines were effective in reducing the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 hospitalisation in people with the Delta VOC, but these effects on infection appeared to be diminished when compared to those with the Alpha VOC. We had insufficient numbers of hospital admissions to compare between vaccines in this respect.
So Delta variant was found mainly in younger more affluent groups. Risk of hospital admission was doubled in delta versus alpha, but there's no indication as to the dispersion of age across that hospitalized group.

You know, if data on this was so easily available, why would it be so hard to get?

If you don't want to believe the Scottish data (which is detailed despite your assertions) and ignore all the evidence from doctors & medical professionals found in the articles -- then have it your own way.

As time goes by detailed COVID information from studies currently underway in the U.S. will come out --- all of it backing the articles and information above. Delta hit the U.K. first so they are a bit ahead of the U.S. in finalized, published studies.

The past three weeks at my brother's hospital...the average age is around 52 years old and he's seeing more hospitalizations between 25 years old to 35 years old.
    • I wouldn't be surprised by end of summer...the average age drops down into the 40 years old range as it did last year from 65 years old to 55 years old with the initial Covid spread. In addition, hospitalizations this year thanks to the Delta Variant...hospitalization among children have tripled at his hospital.
In addition, they're seeing more breakthrough cases of those that have been vaccinated but their illness has been very mild in comparison to those not vaccinated.
    • The above info is in South Dakota.
If the United States does not reach vaccination herd immunity thanks to the unvaccinated...the country is fucked big time if another deadlier mutation / variant shows up that lessons the efficacy of the current vaccines (you heard it here first). :(

Many are twisted in the head but there's also a large group of those that are just afraid to be vaccinated after reading all the misinformation / disinformation.

I'm not sure if you've noticed, many social media sites have been shutting down these Covidiots on their platforms. Where do they go as an alternate site that will allow the bullshit misinformation after they've been shut down on other social media sites...
    • Places like Elitetrader.com
I recently caught one of these Covidiots as @carrer posting some crazy bullshit about vaccines (fake staged videos / images without their source links) while shilling a drug not approved by the FDA for treatment of Covid in which the drugmaker (Merck) states their own research finds no evidence to support the claims being touted by these Covidiots.
    • Imagine that, the drugmaker denouncing their own drug for the treatment of Covid but the crazies are not having any of that. :D
Regardless, places like ET has been allowing the Covid misinformation bullshit to occur here on its platform since Day 1 of the Pandemic. This forum is complicit to catering to it to get more views / clicks.

That in itself is encouraging the spread of misinformation...fear mongering about vaccination because Elitetrader.com has a very high search engine ranking and its messages are cache daily...

That's one of the reason why ET has become a popular landing spot for Covid misinformation.
