Sounds good in theory, but the world is a global marketplace and that's not gonna change anytime soon. On my last trip to China, I loaded up on Astor Chang shirts that would other wise cost me 5x as much. Why should I pay more so that they can have a central park south store and snooty sales people who look down at you because you're "only" buying 2 $150 shirts? Also picked up 50 new released movies at less than a buck apiece. Hollywood can kiss my ass too!
No, creative destruction happens, and new opportunities emerge--but not instantly or in some imaginary tit-for-tat fashion. However, with the tax/spend/regulate/nationalize trend out of Washinton, it's not surprising that new opportunities and industries are being stifled in the U.S. And no, gov't supported "green energy jobs" (largely based on junk science at this point) aren't the answer, either.

Since there is a structural unemployment problem I think we should consider the creation of a new WPA like program to employ people repairing infrastructure, creating parks etc. If we are going to spend the money let's get something that at least arguably benefits society as a whole instead of handing out EBT cards to be used at casinos.
