A paradox indeed. Something much bigger behind all of the uprisings. In hindsight, people will all look back and proclaim "who is like the beast".

  3. CNN-Talking about the first shot by a French aircraft on a Libyan military vehicle, French defence ministry spokesman Laurent Teisseire told reporters: "A first target was engaged and destroyed."

The BBC's Katie Connolly in Washington DC says both the White House and the US State Department have been emphasising the same line - that the US has been invited to take action and is not leading operations.

The U.S. prepared to a launch a missile attack on Libyan air defenses, but American ships and aircraft stationed in and around the Mediterranean Sea did not participate in initial French air missions Saturday, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the unfolding intervention.

  7. The stench is coming from so many places it's difficult to know where to begin. Fact is being replaced with fiction in real time. Listening to the propaganda machine you would think that Gadhafi woke up one morning a couple weeks ago and just arbitrarily started attacking his own people and cities. What he's doing, what any government would do, is trying to squash a rebel uprising against his government. He is within his rights to do just that. The oppressed rebels are within their rights to rebel. What's not right is our intervention into this mess, and trying to call it a humanitarian effort is an insult to the intelligence of any thinking person who has watched world events unfold over the past decade(s).
Our media is offering what can only be described as tepid support, but support none the less. Poor things are caught in a corner. Had Bush pulled a stunt like this they would be all over his war mongering ways. Not this time! Now it's their boy in the drivers seat. It's disgusting and humorous watching them try to convince themselves we're doing the right thing, for the right reasons. Their sheepish looks give them away. They know it's bullshit, but the spin must go on to protect the "chosen one". Bet your last buck we won't hear much about collateral damage or the killing if innocents as our missiles take out targets of opportunity.
What's even more insulting is this, we have a coalition built to support this invasion into another Muslim country. That line of bullshit may sell here, but anyone with half a brain knows that's not how it will be sold in Pakistan, or any other place where radical Islam dwells. No, it will be the dirty Americans and their western allies once again invade where they have no business, and they'll be the right.
Make no mistake, this little adventure will come back to haunt us, and the blood will be on our hands to demonstrate undeniable guilt.

This is bad. Afghanistan, OK - we're after al quedia (or however they are spelled this week). Iraq, OK we deposed a nasty ass dictator and are (potentially) allowing an Arab democracy.

But going to war to support a dictator? Wow.

History will not be kind to obama.

  9. It's all about the oil, and Israel...and the religious nut jobs who want Armageddon in the middle east...

Get off the crack, dump Israel, with money saved invest in America.

What do flight attendants tell parents with children? Put on your own oxygen mask first before looking to your children.

We no longer have the economic strength to police the world, we have to take care of our own health and well being first before we look to try and rescue anyone else.

Our foreign policy is for shit when we act against our own real economic future. History will look back and see how stupid America has been ever since the oil embargo in the 70's. Why we invest any money in a money pit leaves a rational person asking themselves...WTF???

In the bigger picture, the whole middle east involvement is reminiscent of Vietnam.

The Chinese must be laughing watching the U.S. piss away money.

Who is happy? The military of course, they get to play with their new toys.

This isn't anything but a game of risk...while we do nothing to free ourselves from the dependency on oil.
