U.S. Infrastructure Renewal: Who Should Pay the Bill?

Discussion in 'Economics' started by OddTrader, Jul 26, 2017.

  1. My point isn't I'll never drive, the point is the cost of car ownership I the US is vastly subsidized and the cost of ownership should reflect that.

This can be done fairly with an excise tax that taxes a product that the use of which damages public assets.

  3. Drive a private road to work then.

And really, I'm complaining about a gourmet subsidy AND I'm Marxist???

The answer is obvious to everyone beyond most Americans it seems. American tax payers will have to pay higher personal taxes and health care costs for at least 10 years until the US gets it's books righted. Just like Canada had to do in the past when our national debt to GDP went to record levels in the 1980s. Failing to do so only shifts the burden to younger American generations and that just isn't practical anymore.

I would rather put 10% tarrifs on Chinese imports.

Also believe there are lots of savings in the healthcare sector of the US economy.

US citizens have had a grudge against paying any sort of taxes since 1776.
Cali the richest state won't cough up to end gridlock on the roads, pollution in the cities or even pipe in sufficient water. Tight wads !

Plenty of money for even more rockets and bombs though. Get your priorities right guys.

Same here in the UK with Mrs Poodle. Do we really need 4 more expensive nuclear subs and 2 huge aircraft carriers to combat the occasional terrorist looney ?

We need better quality politicians and more sensible voters.

  10. That are the kind of silly things we would not want to hear about when one day we become esteemed politicians.
