the great Deng Xiaoping had the vision to open up China for business with the rest of the world.... and the Chinese people are fortunate enough to have the current generation of leaders to keep his vision going... and let's hope they can stay on the right path, so that childrens of generations to come can benefit from a better education system.
Just because china has a higher standard of math and science as a result of a bad political system doesn't mean high level of math and science are not necessary for economic growth. Just like a slave has strong muscle doesn't mean strong muscle is bad. I totally agree with you that China has bad political system. But it doesn't mean better understanding of math and science are not necessary. Even we need high quality of math and science eduation, it doesn't mean that we have to follow the Chinese education system. Are you trained to follow the logic here? Or you are just trained to follow your own order (or the orders learned from China)? Are you still polluted by the idea of "managing others" since you were managed by others in the past in China and were suffered there? I strongly oppose your idea of training your kids to manage others. We have no hope if all our generations just wish to "manage" others.
"Managers" cannot acquire and 'manage' businesses without capital, something that Americans have very little of since they refuse to actually work, or let others work. When Chinese firms convert their debt holdings, to equity of US firms, most of the management will be replaced by Chinese people. Just like it is Americans who manage American-owned businesses that operate overseas. Anyone who thinks that Americans can just sit back, acquire lots of 'management' skills, and go on like they have for the past 20-30 years is, IMHO, completely delusional. Some Americans might disagree with the Chinese political system, and how things are done there -- but unlike in America -- things are actually getting done in China, and done very efficiently.
Most people under 30 are now busy scamming each other on "web 2.0" marketing schemes. Rent a nice home and a Lambo for a few hours, photoshop google payout check, hire a semi-pro camera crew and a half decent copy writer and you too can "earn" millions. It's so easy to scam these idiots, sometimes I wonder why I even bother trading.
What is your argument against "high levels of maths and science?" I can't quite follow how you could even possibly attempt to make an argument against them. Where do you consider we focus our attention to? More emphasis on business globalization and outsourcing of jobs to make a quick buck? Sounds like a good plan.. pffffff..
This country is so f**ked up, it's truly astounding. If anything, we should forced learning camps for all these little shits so that we can actually make it as a nation, because their parents apparently can't seem to discipline them. Our very security as a country depends on math, science and reading comprehension being learned by the younger generation, at a very high level - the world is a competitive place that's only getting more so as we fall further and further behind. Graduation rates of less than 40% in large cities, and that's with bare bones standards? WTF!!!!!!!!! If you don't study and learn like your next meal depends on it, you WILL go hungry you little shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go take Debate 101 - How to stay on topic. who asked you about inventions from thousands of years ago... and don't get me started on the compass... at 5 years old, my daughter recognizes that when she floats a magnet on a bucket of water, it always points to the same direction. And to all the other people who also need to take Debate 101 - we are not debating the following: 1) if maths/science is useful; 2) if Chinese/Indians come to the US to make money or do research; 3) if the Chinese invented things of great use in the past Go back to page one and read the title again - we are debating, if skills in maths/science have any bearing on the future of a country. This exactly proves my point - while the Chinese students (sounds like many of you were) are busy beefing up maths/science, left to neglect is the communication skills. You guys go against any high school debate team in the US, you will get your rear kicked, any day.
