If you disagree with anything I wrote about the ability to make your IP address come from anywhere I welcome the correction? Because I welcome the opportunity to learn and refine my understanding of the world, do you?

  2. Like i said, i am not a security expert. I am merely a systems architect with many years experience working with large corp and gov. All hacks start off with kind of inside info. An ip address needs to appear as it came from side the firewall beyond the dmz. But who knows their email architecture, for all we know it's sitting in a basement closet, sound familiar. There are many malicious people out there. Let's keep it high level on blogs.

It did occur to me that the Surf's and W.J. Feathermaker III's of the world are reading this and saying to themselves something along the lines of "What, this is a thing? I don't have to have 5 ISPs and get a new one each time I switch my handle on ET? How come no-one ever told me?"
Seriously though, the idea that IP addresses are of no value from a security perspective is very basic knowledge, it's not letting the cat out of the bag for any high level hackers to explain that. On the other hand, it is very helpful to those laboring under the mistaken illusion that they have security where they don't.

  4. Ppl in the security business need to say that to sell services. Not easy to break into secure lan without inside info. Could be security industry leak.
