Did anybody have a problem while running tws on a new high spec PC? Were people with problems using IB for charts or backfill ? It may be time to upgrade the PC and use the old one for charts with a seperate datafeed.
I haven't had any of these types of difficulties the last several days. Maybe you got some other type of problem. Everything smooth except for BookTrader, which I replaced with ButtonTrader. OldTrader
I'd be a little cautious with BookTrader. I used this from the beginning. But in the recent couple of weeks, you could click on it to make a trade, and nothing would happen. Several clicks, nothing. Enough clicks and eventually it would work. This happened periodically. I reported it to IB...they said they couldn't duplicate it. I took this to mean they couldn't correct what they couldn't duplicate....so I shitcanned BookTrader. Now using ButtonTrader with no problem at all. I haven't had any other type of problem in TWS. I don't use the charts though. I use the standalone version. OldTrader
See my posts in the Software section. You need www.prioritymaster.com to boost the javaw.exe program for you to REALTIME and to lower all other apps in priority. Also, best to run with a lean O/S like Win2K. WinXP has just so much overhead....it was never meant to be a realtime operating system.
any java platform is going to have issues in this market; java platforms were ok about 3yrs ago; you guys need a program based platform; mine has been working fine this wk; only takes about 10 mbs of ram.
Not true....I'm running ThinkorSwim's platform and it's solid....and all Java. I would bet that running TWS on a Linux platform would be much better.....Windows/XP is just horrible.....there are too many things (mostly useless) going on....and Java is relegated a low priority (I think Bill Gates did that purposely !) My rec: move to Linux or Windows 2000. Running an interpreted piece of software on a non-realtime O/S like Windows XP for a realtime application is just plain DUMB. (Oh, IB never told you that ? Must be that customer service thing again....)
Hi OldTrader, Do you have any experince with NinjaTrader? What made you choose ButtonTrader over other front ends? Thanks, redduke
Don't know anything about NinjaTrader. I heard alot of good things about Button Trader, which is what pushed me that way. They each have websites you can look over though. OldTrader
Well, my problem - TWS taking a long time to start up - was just due to some weirdness with java 1.6.0. I uninstalled it, installed 1.5.0, and startup is quick again. I don't use IB's data feed at all - the firewall blocks port 4000 - so I don't use charts, backfill, option trader or DOM windows, etc.
I think a lot of bs is being tossed here. My xp system displays no start up delay for TWS at all using Java 1.6. Take a few seconds to get the log on box, and maybe 5 seconds to bring up the app You can't give TWS realtime priority if you are using other apps like QT or whatever, or they will not run well. I kicked TWS up a notch myself to above normal with no ill effects. And Java 1.6 is a lot faster than the prev version, if its slower for you , theres some other issue
