I’m reading AOC got more viewers when she played a video game on twitch than DeSantis got on his campaign launch on Twitter. I respect trying new things but this was a fail as far a campaign kick offs go. Think Obama’s launch in Chicago or Trump in NYC. It just did not get the major launch of past winning campaigns.
Yep... she mocked DeSantis & Musk for this complete failure to launch. AOC mocks DeSantis over his glitch-plagued presidential announcement on Twitter with Elon Musk https://www.businessinsider.com/aoc...-spaces-presidential-announcement-2024-2023-5 "We had more people join when I played Among Us," Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter.
I would agree, it was a total fail. But if the platform did what it was supposed to, you wouldn't be able to make the AOC claim. The number of people who wanted to be on the spaces simply couldn't. I don't quite understand why DeSantis went this path, and I think its pretty clear the gamble didn't pay off. But yeah, it was a fail. You guys are all gleeful of the fail and should celebrate, and that's cool. You earned it.
People are going to knock this point about Trump but it’s very true and effective. Especially compared with DeSantis who is very articulate when discussing policy. I once said Donald Trump talks like your drunk uncle but lots and lots of people can relate at that level. From what I was able to hear of DeSantis’ campaign launch he was very verbose and always giving these complicated examples - which is great in a boardroom but doesn’t get at the GOP base (low education voters). ((And I know that will be offensive to right wingers but it’s true. The base is now working class with high school education.)) Anyway, Gingrich is right and it’s why Trump is able to dispatch the Bush types, etc.
He put out a campaign ad which obviously he read off a script. Not even in doing so could he break from his monotone diction and drive emphasis. His cadence reminds me of someone equally boring....Bueller teacher perhaps? Al gore?
Let's take a look at the reality of the size of DeSantis' audience for this Twitter announcement. Pretty sad on two counts -- many other platforms easily handle live audiences that number in the millions and that DeSantis can't even get near the million mark for his "big announcement" despite all the hype. DeSantis-Twitter rollout fiasco blamed on huge audience — here's the reality https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/technology/desantis-twitter-spaces-biggest Twitter and the Ron DeSantis campaign are claiming that overwhelming interest was to blame for the technical problems with Wednesday night's presidential campaign rollout on Twitter Spaces. But while the number of listeners was notable, other platforms have handled similar audiences without trouble. “We had a huge audience. It was the biggest they've ever had. It did break the Twitter Space," DeSantis said of the snafu afterward in an interview on Fox News. The Space with Florida's governor was "probably the biggest room that has ever been assembled online," said venture capitalist David Sacks, who moderated the event with Elon Musk and DeSantis. It is true that the gathering, the first presidential campaign announcement on Twitter Spaces, drew a massive audience. More than 700,000 people joined at one point, according to DeSantis adviser Generra Peck. The numbers fell quickly, though, after the event glitched and many were not able to hear DeSantis and the others. After Musk started a separate Spaces room to finish the interview, the number of guests averaged around 200,000. Nevertheless, DeSantis's interview was likely the largest Twitter Space to date. The next comparable event featured Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan and averaged 160,000 listeners. It is far from the largest event on the internet, however. The video live-streaming platform Twitch regularly hosts events that attract 600,000-700,000 viewers for major events. The largest Twitch stream to date featured the Spanish streamer Ibai broadcasting a boxing match to 3.3 million concurrent viewers. Twitch regularly hosts massive events without major problems. Twitter's struggles conflict with Musk's claims that he has improved the platform's back end. Following his purchase of Twitter last year, he has reduced the team by about 80%. Musk and DeSantis both touted Twitter as a platform for free speech during the event. "I think what was done with Twitter was significant for the future of our country," DeSantis said. Musk agreed, noting that "Twitter was indeed expensive, but free speech is priceless." DeSantis's interview was an attempt to bypass traditional media and reach people directly. The Florida governor was joined by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and conservative activist Christopher Rufo, along with other guests.
