So what exact points do you disagree with?

Sering the article is about technology and human behavior… and not really political.

  4. Not really able to go into it at this time of the day as you are.

But my point about the scientific American stands.

Second, if I were to go into it, the article ignores pretty much- to my lightening scan anyway- Musk's very relevant experience with Paypal which he brings to the table. And Musk approached the Twitter deal with a vision of monetizing it and making it a payment vehicle. Whether one agrees with that or not, if that was/is his vision then he is hardly naive there. The gist of the article is that he is somehow just an engineer never having interacted with consumer behavior and media behavior.

C'mon.... a payment service which simply moves money from point A to point B is much more simple than a large scale social media platform. There is no comparison between Twitter and PayPal in terms of level of complexity -- due to human behavior. The most difficult task at PayPal is handling simple customer service requests. All of this has been well-understood on financial service platforms for decades.

The closest Musk has come to a complex human interaction situation with one of his companies is the self-driving situation at Tesla. A problem his engineering team has been unable to solve despite years of effort -- and Twitter is an order of magnitude more complex than that.

In regards to Musk's vision to make Twitter a payments platform -- it may not be a bad idea. There are actually a few bright ideas for Twitter that Musk has brought forward despite all the chaos. The problem is he has no possible way to execute on them. Some reasonable ideas include:
    • Adding payments to Twitter.
    • Monthly payments for additional account capabilities (but don't include verified accounts).
    • Payments for the viewing of videos submitted by users. Trying to compete with Youtube, OnlyFans, etc.
    • A fact checking model based on Polis (Community Notes)
    • Adding encrypted DMs.
    • Adding voice/video chat.
    • A Twitter marketplace where vendors can sell/promote items and Twitter gets a cut.
The question remains how to generate reasonable revenue from any of the above. There are already plenty of free encrypted voice/video applications (e.g. Signal). There are many free encrypted messaging apps as well. Charging for these capabilities at Twitter simply mean that people won't use them. For revenue, Musk would be better off focusing on monthly payments for advanced features (not verification), payments to view videos (i.e. OnlyFans model), some type of Twitter marketplace for direct transactions, and adding payment services to Twitter. Seeing the demise of crypto across the globe it probably is unwise to add crypto within Twitter at this time.

From Musk's own previous statements, it is clear he does not care about advertising. Unfortunately for him advertising provides over 90% of Twitters revenue and this will be hard to replace in the short term. At this point, Musk's allowing previously banned hate-spewing right-wing characters back on the platform even has major civil rights organizations urging advertisers to withdraw and the purchasing of ads on Twitter being considered high risk.

Musk's plan to "evolve" Twitter by eliminating modern micro-service based architecture and to rebuild the platform from scratch as one big ball of spaghetti code -- shows Musk has no understanding of modern computer science.

Of course it is becoming clear that Musk does not care about making money at Twitter (I wonder what the financial backers think of that). He merely wants a political win.

Elon Musk never cared if Twitter was a business failure – he wants a political win

I just wonder whether at the back of Musk's thinking, he's considering of running for politics himself, also bearing in mind politicians are often egotistic and narcissists.

It is totally weird to read how brainless journalists and elite traders are teaching Musk how to build software.

  8. That would really sink Tesla so I am all for it!

When guys get this rich they crave power and ass kissing (bloomberg, trump) so running for office is his next step I guess haha

  9. Twitter looks far from dead as usage apparently skyrockets post Elon Musk buyout

The Tesla CEO completed his dramatic acquisition of Twitter on October 27. By the end of the same week, the site experienced an upsurge in mDAU resulting in a total of 257.6 million users, an increase of 3.1 million over the previous week which ended with 254.5 million users.

In short, while it is too early to speculate on the long-term effects of Twitter’s rapid downsizing, policy changes, and restoration of banned accounts, one thing is quite clear: the changes haven’t dissuaded people from using the platform at least according to Musk’s numbers.

What is mind boggling the most is how easy it is to con the mass of gullible humanity.
The majority of humans it seems are content with their life, each evening early, turn on their TV's and be swooned by media personalities.
Turn on the entertainment and allow the bs artists to control our emotions with our fawning ass kissing approval and if politicians, vote them into office.
If Musk ran, undoubtedly he'd win in a landslide by approval of the suckers.
