Twitter and Musk

  1. I am going with "no" for you.

The leap from "free" to $8/month is a Copernican shift for a lefty.

I heard that Elon just cut a deal with Fox to bundle twitter with their cable subscription. Caution: Little joke there. No need to start breathing into the paper bag: YET. GWB is probably already out on the ledge. Just a joke GWB. Don't jump, mate.

That's the feature, not the bug. The bet is to sway public opinion to get simpatico politicos in place to cut economic deals. It's why blue check marks are coming Monday so any Joe Schmo can become voting commissioner of their county and tell people the election's been postponed. So any blowhard can become a "reputable pollster" and call the election for the candidate of their show on Tuesday.

    What a complete clusterf@ck.

Is it just me or has Elon Musk forced Twitter’s blue bird to fly into a window and break its neck? Let us count the ways.
    https://www.ajournalofmusicalthings...bird-to-fly-into-a-window-and-break-its-neck/

Elon Musk has owned Twitter for all of one week and the carnage and weirdness has been rather insane. Let’s review.

He’s in the process of firing half the company’s employees

Half of 7,500 people. If you got an email on your Twitter work account, that meant you were staying. If that same email arrived in the inbox of your personal email, you were toast.

It took just hours for fired employees to file a class action lawsuit about the firings
Mass layoffs with no notice contravenes some labour laws in some parts of the world. The first is at least one lawsuit filed in California.

    Advertisers are bailing so…
…Musk wants to charge people $8/month for a blue “verified ” checkmark next to their name. Will people pay? The blowback has been…intense. And gee, you think this will lead to a rise in imposters and fake accounts? After all, you’ll only have to pay $8/month to impersonate someone who won’t pay. Or am I missing something? Trevor Noah has another solution to keep revenues going.

…and he wants to charge people to DM VIPs and celebrities.

while taking a slice of that fee, of course. Jeezus.

Advertisers are having none of this

Take the case of United Airlines. They’re out when it comes to Twitter.

And Elon is handling advertiser defections well. Not.
What, exactly, are his plans for a “thermonuclear name and shame?” That’s how you take care of your customers.

    Users are bailing. too

A million users may have left Twitter since Musk took over.

Jeezus. And it’s only been a week.

  6. Probably lefty bots dumping crap on to Twitter to disparage Elon.

Could happen. Use bots to dump crap and then run over to the dem's personal attorney Merrick Garland and have him take action.

Yup. If that has not happened yet, you can plan on it. That's just dem/doj 101.

Elon Musk complains about Twitter advertisers — and gets fact checked by his own platform

    https://www.rawstory.com/elon-musk-twitter-2658599914/

Twitter CEO Elon Musk on Friday angrily lashed out after seeing his new company suffer a massive drop in advertising revenue -- and then had to see his own platform offer a fact check to his claims.

In a tweet posted Friday morning, Musk complained that "Twitter has had a massive drop in revenue, due to activist groups pressuring advertisers, even though nothing has changed with content moderation and we did everything we could to appease the activists."

Musk added that this situation was "extremely messed up" and he accused the activists of "trying to destroy free speech in America."

Shortly after Musk's tweet was posted, however, Twitter added a disclaimer to the tweet at the suggestion of Musk's followers that posted links to news sites ranging from the Wall Street Journal to the Daily Mail to demonstrate that "reporting shows advertisers suspending or canceling ad buys over concerns with Twitter platform direction, especially as related to content moderation."

Musk himself likely did not help his company's appeal to advertisers this week when he promoted, and subsequently deleted, a fake news story alleging that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, was having an affair with the man who assaulted him last week with a hammer.

Musk is not the only major Twitter user to get hit with a fact check, as the Biden White House earlier this week was called out for a false claim that President Joe Biden's efforts were responsible for a major increase in Social Security payments, when the reality is those payments are the result of decades-high inflation.

Just keep in mind early these week, Musk decreased the moderation team to a mere 15 people. At this point Twitter is effectively unmoderated - you can post whatever you please unless it displeases Musk (which he will permanently ban you for - so much for "free speech").
