It appears that the majority of our population want companies to support freedom of speech, and Elon has vowed to advertisers that he won't allow Twitter to become what you described. We'll see what happens. I'm not sure that it's going to be as uncensored as people think.
It’s all about association. The people who like “rough and tumble” social media aren’t the audience most big companies want to capture with online advertising. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/twitter-elon-musk-general-mills-audi-pause-ads/
that's contradictory. Twitter becoming a racist nightmare means more freedom of speech because hate speech is protected. Advertisers understandably want speech curbed in this private platform to associate w/it.
That's true. I think that Elon will bring a higher level of freedom of speech to Twitter, but it won't be completely free. I expect that there will still be some censorship in place.
Which is fine, GAB, Parler, and for sure 4Chan have higher levels of freedom on speech but he should understand the implications of catering to a niche audience who accepts being exposed to grotesque content.
Elon has spend the last 6 years telling EVERYONE what he would do with the platform...now he's getting pissed because companies are taking him at his word. During the past week he has PERSONALLY INTERVENED to allow banned users promoting hate, violence and misinformation back on the platform. This just reinforced to large companies that he was going to do exactly what he was pushing for the past few years and turn Twitter into a "free speech" hellscape. They certainly do not want their advertising associated with this.
Has Elon ever said that he will allow things like racial slurs on Twitter? I don't see him censoring misinformation or politicians, but I do think that there are some things that he will censor.
You better go check your Twitter feed for the N word since Musk took over. He reduced the content moderation team to a mere 15 people early this week. Musk also fired today the entire Twitter team responsible for countering misinformation. Soon the only advertising you will see on Twitter will be this...
