All the "Twitter alternative" articles are showing up... Deleting Twitter After Elon Musk's Takeover? Try These Alternatives https://time.com/6226266/delete-twitter-alternatives/
Musk doesn't know what free speech looks like. Keep in mind Elon is the guy who permanently banned Twitter users with large numbers of followers for politely criticizing his post peddling misinformation about the Paul Pelosi attack. Elon Musk kicked off his ‘free speech’ crusade by firing Twitter’s biggest free speech advocate https://www.dailydot.com/debug/vijaya-gadde-elon-musk-twittter/
A good technological company does not need free speech advocates. It needs good lawyers and software engineers. The rest is useless spending of money.
Twitter is not really a technology company -- it is a social media company. The Tech side of Twitter is not really revolutionary --- in fact it is easily reproducible (Mastodon, BlueSky, etc.). Twitter is built on the user community and associated advertising.
The 8 bucks a month really isn't going to mean much when there are only 420,000 verified users. I just saved the Q2 earnings release for the comedy gold it is. It was an awful run company that Musk got taken to the cleaners on the price. Hysterical they spent 800 million on research and development year over year. Basically, a $100k per employee on what? Probably the best part of Musk buying Twitter is that it will end up going the way of Myspace. I had no idea they were such a financial shithole. This wouldn't be easy to turn around if vulture investing and this company was bought at a massive discount. At the massive premium paid there is no way. I won't be surprised when Musk sues former executives for fraud and a massive dereliction of fiduciary responsibility. It is basically a 13 billion AUM investment holding company with a social network that sets money on fire that he paid 44 billion for.
Best thing he can do is to do the lay-offs and then build a sense that those who were not moved out are part of the new Twitter. I don't know if that is the plan he is following but if it is, I would understand it. It is when companies do a big layoff and then announce that there may be more at the end of Q4, Q1, etc. that creates a really nasty environment.
This is the best line ever in their 2021 annual report "We have incurred significant operating losses in the past, and we may not be able to maintain profitability or accurately predict fluctuations in our operating results from quarter to quarter." Musk seriously must have been high and/or drunk when he started this process, sobered up but it was too late. Considering this 2021 annual report is what is above water who knows what is under the water that Musk and team will uncover. The report is like 40 pages of warnings lol. My money is on Twitter now as the Enron/Worldcom of this everything bubble that has popped.
Any financial report has 40 pages of warnings but yes, Musk was drunk or smoked something when he bought this shithole. It will be fun to watch though.
LOL... but so much for "free speech". AOC complains her Twitter account 'conveniently' not working after tiff with CEO Elon Musk Musk has been on the defensive, fending off criticism of the $8 charge for Twitter verification since it was announced days ago https://www.foxbusiness.com/economy...eniently-not-working-after-tiff-ceo-elon-musk
Many major brands have stopped their advertising on Twitter and have been quiet about it. A number of brands have openly announced their discontinuation of advertising on Twitter. Bottom line: There are few major brands left of Twitter which have not paused their advertising. What is Musk going to do to address their concerns? At this point Musk is truly f@cked. But it is a self-inflicted wound. Brands are ‘quiet quitting’ Twitter over worries of what Musk will bring https://fortune.com/2022/11/03/brands-quiet-quitting-twitter-worries-what-musk-will-bring/
